San Diego Padres vs Colorado Rockies Match Player Stats On Jun 16, 2021

Charlie Blackmon had a pinch-hit single in the bottom of the ninth to drive in Trevor Story, and the host Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 8-7 on Wednesday to sweep a three-game series.

Story had two doubles and two stolen bases, Elias Diaz homered among his three hits, C.J. Cron also went deep and Raimel Tapia had three hits to extend his hitting streak to 13 games for Colorado.

Fernando Tatis and Trent Grisham homered and had two hits each, Jake Cronenworth also homered and Manny Machado had two hits for San Diego. The Padres have lost seven of their last eight games.

The Rockies led 7-6 entering the ninth but Carlos Estevez (2-0) walked the first two batters, Brendan Rodgers had a throwing error on a potential double-play ball and Grisham tied it with a sacrifice fly.

Story led off the ninth with a walk off Austin Adams (2-1) and stole second. Blackmon singled up the middle and Story scored easily.

Colorado took the lead in the first on an RBI double by Story and Cron's two-run homer, his seventh, to make it 3-0.

San Diego got even in the third inning when Tatis hit his NL-leading 21st home run to left-center field. Machado singled and one out later Grisham homered to left, his eighth, to tie it.

Rodgers had an RBI single in the third to put the Rockies back in front 4-3, but the Padres came right back in the fourth. Tatis doubled to left to drive in Tommy Pham with the tying run and Machado drove Tatis home with a double.

That ended starter Kyle Freeland's day. Freeland allowed five runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Colorado answered in its half of the inning. Diaz led off with his second homer of the season. Tapia doubled and scored on a single by Yonathan Daza and Story's RBI double made it 7-5 and chased starter Blake Snell.

Snell gave up seven runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings.

Cronenworth led off the sixth with his seventh homer.
