Baseball's annual winter meetings kicked off with a doozy, as the New York Mets locked up Juan Soto for the next decade-and-a-half.
MLB odds have the Los Angeles Dodgers as clear favorites to repeat as World Series champions but the Mets have jumped up the odds board after snagging Soto away from the crosstown New York Yankees.
With that in mind, let's look at the early 2025 World Series odds.

World Series odds analysis
The New York Mets won the Juan Soto sweepstakes, signing the 26-year-old outfielder to a record 15-year, $765-million contract on Sunday, December 8, just as the annual winter meetings kicked off.
The Mets went from as long as +1400 to as short as +700 after news of the Soto acquisition broke. Soto's arrival in pinstripes helped propel the New York Yankees to their first World Series appearance since 2009. Although the Evil Empire was vying for a reunion, the superstar slugger is ultimately taking the 7 train to Citi Field.
Soto goes from hitting alongside Aaron Judge to playing with shortstop Francisco Lindor to form a fantastic 1-2 punch in the heart of the Mets' lineup.
Still, it wasn't enough to catapult the Mets into overall favorite status. The Los Angeles Dodgers shored up their rotation by signing Blake Snell, brought back reliever Blake Treinen, and reinforced the outfield by signing Michael Conforto. While other teams focused more on Soto, the Dodgers continue to improve a roster that just won the Fall Classic.
While the Yankees fell short of keeping Soto in the Bronx, they've bolstered their pitching by signing All-Star left-hander Max Fried and trading for closer Devin Williams. Brian Cashman is expected to make several more moves in the coming weeks, with Cody Bellinger, Alex Bregman, and Christian Walker among the rumored targets.
2025 World Series betting splits
- At BetMGM, the Mets moved from +1200 to +700 after the signing.
- "Juan Soto to the Mets significantly improves their chances of winning the World Series," Hal Egeland, BetMGM's trading strategy manager said. "A move from +1200 to +700 is massive for one player, but it also indicates that Steve Cohen and the Mets look to be all in and will continue adding pieces to their team."
- Meanwhile, the Yankees saw their odds lengthen from +800 to +900.
- Since Soto signed, 66% of money coming in on the World Series market has been on the Mets.
- Still, the Dodgers hold the highest ticket percentage (23.3%) and highest handle (36.7%), therefore representing the biggest liability to the sportsbook.

How to read MLB World Series futures odds
Sportsbooks will post World Series futures as soon as the previous season concludes, and some even sooner. These betting boards are constantly adjusted throughout the winter and ensuing season as players get hurt or are traded. Once the regular season begins, World Series odds will change daily as teams win and lose games, and as more players are injured or traded. Sportsbooks will also adjust the World Series odds based on handle and liability to certain teams.
World Series odds will usually look like this:
- Los Angeles Dodgers +240
This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to win $240 if the Dodgers win the World Series. If it's close to the end of the season or MLB has a very dominant team, you could see a minus sign (-) ahead of a team's odds.
- Atlanta Braves -150
This means that if you bet on the Atlanta Braves during the 2020 MLB season, you would have needed to bet $150 to profit $100 if the Braves won the championship.
