With Mac Jones leading the way, my NFL picks for Sunday, December 29 believe the Jaguars can sweep the season series against their AFC South division foe.

My analysis
For our best bet of this AFC South clash we’re taking the Jacksonville Jaguars -1. You can’t be truly confident backing any team with just three wins to their name all season but a look at the numbers indicates that it’s probably the smart play here.
So let’s start with the last time these teams met. That was only three games ago, early in December, in a game that finished 10-6 to the Jaguars. In truth, there are likely to be a lot of similarities between that game in Nashville and the upcoming game this weekend. The Jaguars had Mac Jones at quarterback but the Tennessee Titans still had Will Levis at that time, although Mason Rudolph feels like a change at QB that doesn’t really impact the team much, and is arguably a downgrade.
That game was a very dull matchup with neither team managing to put up 300 yards of offense. The Jaguars scored the only touchdown of the game through Tank Bigsby and the remaining points came via the boots of each team’s kicker.
Nothing has really changed much since that game. These are two of the very worst teams in the NFL and there’s very little reason for either team to win. You could argue that it would be better for each franchise to lose. We know that in reality, that doesn’t come into their thinking. After all, these are players and coaches who want job security more than caring about the long-term success of their teams. That said, we have seen the Jaguars play hard in recent weeks, even if they haven’t had the quality to get the wins. They only lost narrowly to the Texans, showing up in that divisional game and they scared the Jets, as well as a five-point loss to the Raiders last week, in a game that they probably should have won.
These teams are very close in overall talent level but two things set them apart on Sunday. The Jaguars have Brian Thomas Jr., the rookie wideout who already looks like one of the very best in the NFL and is managing to put up big numbers even with Mac Jones at QB. Then you also have the Jaguars having home-field advantage. This team beat the Texans, and covered, on the road earlier this month and in front of their own fans, they should be able to repeat the feat.

Calvin Ridley Over 60.5 receiving yards
First up we’re grabbing our best bet for the game, then we’re going to add Jaguars’ receiver Brian Thomas Jr to score a touchdown. Since the Week 12 bye he’s played four, scored four and despite having Mac Jones as his QB, has excelled. Part of his success has been sheer volume with double-digit targets in every game.
Our final leg in the SGP is for former Jaguars’ WR Calvin Ridley to have Over 60.5 receiving yards in his revenge game. Nobody has allowed more passing yards than the Jaguars, with an average of 263 per game. Even with Mason Rudolph throwing him the football, we should be able to see Ridley cover.
