I like letting several conference champions in the playoff but I don't agree with giving them a bye.  

I agree that 3 losses is too many and those teams should not be in.  The results on the field have to count.  If a 3 loss team got in I would argue Ole Miss deserves it more than Alabama or South Carolina.  OM beat South Carolina 27-3 (and it wasn't even that close - in Columbia) and beat Georgia 28-10. 

You make some excellent points and I agree with most everything you say.  My personal choice would be to expand the playoff to 16 teams and eliminate the byes.  Take the 6 highest ranked conference champions and the 10 other teams with the highest ranking.  Seed them as they are ranked with #1 vs #16, #2 vs #15, etc.  First round games on the campus of the higher ranked teams.  Then use bowl games for the next 2 rounds as they do this year.  

Yes -5 seems light.  It seems too easy which always worries me. 

I find it interesting that Ole Miss is not in this conversation.  All 3 of their losses were extremely close and they beat S Carolina 27-3.  It was a beat down.  They also beat Georgia 28-10.

The Rice Owls (3-8) are hosting the South Florida Bulls (6-5) Saturday afternoon at 1:00 at Rice Stadium.  These two teams are headed in opposite directions as Rice has lost their last two games and USF has won it's last two.  Last week Rice lost to UAB 40-14 as a 7 point favorite, so it makes you wonder if the Owls have let go of the rope.  Meanwhile USF is 6-5 and their offense is humming right now.  The last two games were victories over Charlotte 59-24 and Tulsa 63-30.  So they have scored 122 points in their last 2 games.  The Bulls have played a fairly tough schedule this year, with their only losses coming to Alabama, Miami, Tulane, Memphis and Navy.  In their other 6 games (all victories) they have won by an average score of 51-21!  The more I dig into this game the more I can't see Rice keeping up with USF.  I think the fair line should be 10 and I will gladly lay the 6 points here.

Another thing I should mention, Hugh Freeze grew up in north Mississippi and went to college at USM and he absolutely hates Alabama.  He has been listening to how great Bama was his whole life and he lives for these moments to get a crack at them.  If y'all remember he beat Bama twice (2014 and 2015) when he was at Ole Miss, and he had them beat last year before that Hail Mary miracle finish.  Just food for thought. 

Yes the line makes sense to me.  Texas has been ranked higher all year and they had an easy game last week.  Meanwhile A&M had a heartbreaking 4OT loss to Auburn which very likely ended their playoff hopes  I think 6 is about right.  What would you make the line?  

I have studied this game and there are several reasons why I like Auburn +11.5.  First of all, Auburn has traditionally played tough in this game and their record in Tuscaloosa is 7-7.  Secondly, Hugh Freeze is a strange coach who definitely has his flaws but he will have his team totally prepared for Bama.  He will pull out some trick plays and new wrinkles and do everything possible to win this game.  Bama has to be a little deflated after losing to Oklahoma and blowing a chance at the playoffs.  And finally, Auburn and Alabama have not been that different this year, not enough to warrant a 11.5 point spread.  Both teams have won 3 of their last 5 and are actually playing close to equal right now.  I think a fair line would be Alabama -6 but I will gladly take the 11.5.
