This has nothing to do with conference right now. It has to do with 2 things. - Motivation - Starters in transfer portal

Kind of hard to trust you after your proclamation last week that Cleveland and your boy DTR were going to take down Cincy..... And didn't you have Houston today? |

I'm not sure that disparity, at least to that degree, exists anymore. Linemen coming out of high school weigh 320. Gone are the days when Nebraska could take some kid that weighed 240, put 40 lbs on him, and own the line of scrimmage. Everyone has those linemen these days. All of the players hit the weights in high school. With the transfer portal the way it is, the NFL deep diving to take kids from NDSU, and NIL paying butt loads of money, kids don't want to ride the bench for Georgia, or Bama, when they can start for Minnesota, so depth has become an issue as well. We are seeing more and more parody across college football. There is less and less difference between P5 and Group of 5. Yes, I know, last weeks games weren't a testimony to that. But we've all seen the upsets by traditional doormats. Ga Southern goes into Florida, doesn't complete a pass and walks out of the swam winners. Bowling Green has upset both the Gophers and Miami in recent years. Marshal beats Notre Dame in South Bend. App st beats A&M. NIU this year beat ND. You can see it all over the board. Coaching has become a huge difference. With players on each side of the line of scrimmage closer to equal, the difference becomes weighted more on scheme, technique, and execution... But perhaps more than any other time, emotion is playing a huge role. Emotion has always been important winning one game. But now teams are asked to go through this gauntlet of extremely tough games, one after another. Emotion is going to be critical. I'm not teaching anyone here anything about the nature of emotional let downs. We all know college football teams tend to have let downs after big emotional wins, and get caught in trap games, when there is a nobody, stuck between a couple big games, and their biggest game on the schedule is the following week. We saw that ...
Everyone brings up the Boise St 1 point loss to Oregon. And yes it was a great game where Oregon had to pull out a couple of kick returns to win. Boise played solid. HOWEVER, everyone seems to forget that at the start of the year, Oregon was a mess. Not only did they look sloppy against Boise St, but in Week 1 they barely beat FCS Idaho. That game was 17-14 midway through the 4th quarter. So I'm not trying to take away from the effort of Boise, but at that point Oregon wasn't as strong as they are now. You go back over the past 1.5 months and Boise hasn't looked dominant. They have had several close calls. Could motivation be the thing? Yes. But I also think they are not as strong as the polls have them. There defense is average, and being average at this time of year can only work if both your running and passing games are solid. They only have 1. The passing game hasn't been tested much all year because of the big chunks they pick up on the ground. Penn State plays really solid defense. They are going to make Boise beat them through the air. Since the start of November, Madsen has a 59% completion rate. He will really need to bring his A+ game to give them a chance. Also regarding the teams being jacked up, Penn St will be ready. And there fans travel well. Not trying to sound like a homer, I am not a Penn St fan. Just giving my 2 cents. |

@newmarket I called it braindead because of your remark that you could see the Steelers taking it easy against the Bengals. That makes zero sense with either playing Houston vs Buffalo on the line. Big difference. And you misinterpreted the Chargers scenario, because the Steelers hold their destiny in their own hands, regardless if the Chargers win both games. |

And Bryce Young isn't even top 13 right now. |

Why anyone would want to touch Kyler Murray right now is beyond me. 1. They are out of the playoffs 2. James Conner is probably out so his safety valve is gone. 3. Looks for Trey McBride and then either tries to outrun everyone or misses throws. |

@newmarket
Do some research before you say braindead things. The Steelers win next week, they either win the division (with a Baltimore loss) or get the 5 spot and play Houston. But in your mind they are content with losing next week, finishing sixth or seventh and going to Buffalo/Baltimore for the playoffs. Even if the Steelers finish with the same record as the Chargers, they hold the tiebreaker.

Any insight? I know they have some horrid contracts but this ship is going nowhere. Especially when Derek Carr is your QB. There are a couple nice pieces but for the most part they should be scraping it down. |
