Alouettes 20, Argonauts 12: S.J. Green had 91 receiving yards and a touchdown as visiting Montreal won its fourth straight game and moved into a tie for top spot in the East Division.
Jonathan Crompton went 19-for-28 for 219 yards and a score to pace the Alouettes (7-8), who drew even with Hamilton atop the division with their sixth win in seven games. Tanner Marsh added a 1-yard scoring plunge while Tyrell Sutton led the ground attack with 14 carries for 78 yards.
Ricky Ray was 25-of-39 but amassed just 202 yards with an interception for the Argonauts (6-9), who saw their three-game winning streak - and likely their chances of winning the division - come to an end. Chad Owens led the way with seven catches for 77 yards.
The teams traded field goals before Montreal surged in front on the final play of the opening quarter. Crompton spotted Green in the end zone and hit him with a 10-yard pass, and the Alouettes held Toronto to a second-quarter Swayze Waters field goal to carry a 10-6 lead into the break.
The Alouettes got a Sean Whyte 37-yard field goal 5:53 into the third quarter and went up 20-6 early in the fourth as a 31-yard jump-ball catch from Green set up Marshกฏs short TD run. Toronto trimmed the gap with a pair of Waters field goals, but came up an inch short on a critical third-down run with less than two minutes remaining and ran out of time on their final possession.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Illegal contact, roughing the passer and face mask penalties on one play allowed Toronto to advance the ball 40 yards with 17 seconds remaining, but Ray was picked off to end the threat. กญ Montreal will face each of the other teams in the East once over the final three weeks of the season, with games in Ottawa and Hamilton and a home date with Toronto. ... The teams combined for 31 penalties totaling 298 yards.
