RJ Davis netted 16 points and Harrison Ingram recorded a double-double as No. 4 North Carolina held off Boston College to earn a 76-66 victory on Saturday afternoon in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
Davis also had six rebounds and four assists as the Tar Heels (15-3, 7-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) extended their winning streak to eight games. Ingram supplied 11 points and 13 boards.
Cormac Ryan added 14 points and Armando Bacot had 10 to go along with nine rebounds for North Carolina, which shot 44.6 percent from the field and 29.4 percent from 3-point range.
Quinten Post paced the Eagles (11-7, 2-5) with a game-high 19 points while also grabbing 10 boards. Prince Aligbe (14 points) was Boston College's only other double-figures scorer.
The Eagles connected on just 19 of their 55 shots overall (34.5 percent), including 3 of 17 from beyond the arc (17.6 percent).
Davis knocked down a trey and Bacot converted a three-point play to allow the Tar Heels to open up a 40-31 lead just 1:12 into the second half.
The Eagles then scored the next five points to cut their deficit to four.
That was the closest Boston College could draw, though. It did pull within four seven more times, but it was never able to get over the hump due in large part to Bacot, who scored seven points during a 2:23 span late in the second half.
Seth Trimble sealed the victory when he hit a short jumper with 1:23 remaining to put the Tar Heels up by 10.
After the Eagles had led by as many as six, North Carolina took its first lead of the game with 9:39 left in the first half when Ryan dropped in a fast-break layup to make it 17-16.
Post answered with a jumper, but the Tar Heels scored 10 of the next 14 points to build a 27-22 advantage.
Boston College soon put together a 6-0 burst to go back on top before Ingram canned a jumper and James Okonkwo threw home a dunk in the final 40 seconds of the first half to send North Carolina into the break with a 34-31 edge.
