Your Dad is going to be guarding the thermostat like Larry Allen this Thanksgiving, with cold, wind, and snow making an appearance during the holiday weekend.
That winter weather impacts a few of this week’s outdoor NFL games, especially Sunday Night Football, and has already started influencing the NFL Week 13 odds.
I run down the forecasts, line moves, and how you should handicap those matchups for your NFL picks in my Week 13 weather report.
Indianapolis Colts at New England Patriots weather
Forecasts for this Sunday’s 1 p.m. ET kickoff range in terms of wind speed for Gillette Stadium.
Some models call for breezes of 11 mph flirting with gusts of 20 mph while others call for sustained winds of 18 mph moving WSW with gusts up to 32 mph, swirling sideline to sideline.
Those will cool the temperature in Foxborough, making the temperatures in the mid-30s feel more like 26 degrees. There’s no snow in the forecast with clear skies and sun on deck.
This total opened at 43.5 points and is down to 42.5 O/U on Sunday morning.
Seattle Seahawks at New York Jets weather
Sunday afternoon in East Rutherford will see temperatures cooled to “feel like” sub-freezing thanks to winds blowing West at 16 mph and gusts getting up to 27 mph, moving sideline to sideline at MetLife Stadium.
MetLife has a mind of its own when it comes to the wind, with unpredictable swirling breezes in the northwest corner of the stadium ever since they tore down the old Meadowlands racetrack.
This total opened at 43 points and dropped as low as 41.5 on Sunday morning.
Tennessee Titans at Washington Commanders weather
Sustained winds of 15 mph with top out at gusts close to 30 mph, blowing west from corner to corner at FedExField when the Commanders host the Titans on Sunday afternoon.
Those breezes will chill the air, dropping temperatures in the low 40s to “feel like” the low 30s. There is no precipitation in the cards for Hyattsville with mostly clear skies and sun.
This total opened at 44.5 and stayed still for the majority of the week.
Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals weather
The forecast for Cincinnati on Sunday is as ice-cold as the rivalry between these AFC North foes.
Temperatures will be in the low 30s with winds helping chill Paycor Stadium to “feel like” temps of 22 degrees. Those breezes will blow at 9 mph with gusts up to 19 mph, moving West from corner to corner.
Other than the chilly temperatures, winds aren’t expected to breach 20 mph and skies should be clear with zero precipitation.
This total opened at 47 and got pumped up to 49.5 before coming back down to 46.5 points.
Philadelphia Eagles at Baltimore Ravens weather
Winds will blow at sustained speeds of 15 mph with gusts up to 28 mph, blowing west from end to end at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore.
Those winds will make temperatures in the low 40s feel closer to freezing for this 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff.
The Over/Under for this non-conference contest opened at 49.5 and have climbed as high as 51 points.
San Francisco 49ers at Buffalo Bills weather
Orchard Park is a long way from Santa Clara for the San Francisco 49ers, who will walk into a winter wonderland on Sunday Night Football.
Snow hit Buffalo all weekend, with a 54% chance of snow showers on deck for Sunday’s 8:20 p.m. ET kickoff. Those will continue into the second half when snow is shown to lighten to flurries. It doesn’t appear to be enough to accumulate but there is no heated field at Highmark Stadium. It could limit visibility downfield, however.
That’s the “expected” forecast for Sunday Night Football. The lake effect off Lake Erie can come out of nowhere if the wind and temperature conditions are right. And that’s essentially a wall of snow coming out of the water. It’s pretty cool but also scary. There’s a lake effect warning in place until Monday.
And speaking of winds and temperatures, some forecasts call for breezes will blow at 18 mph from the west, with gusts up to 29 mph moving corner to corner at Highmark Stadium. If winds are that strong, they'll take the temperature from 30 degrees to a “feels like” range of 12 degrees.
This Over/Under hit the board at 46.5 points and dropped two points to 44.5, with injuries still an issue for the 49ers offense.
