A hiccup from Miami Hurricanes QB Cam Ward in Week 11 opened the door for Colorado Buffaloes CB/WR Travis Hunter to jump to the top of the Heisman Trophy odds board, and Hunter walked right through it.
A tremendous Week 12 performance from Hunter has him as low as -400 now. Boise State Broncos RB Ashton Jeanty is the only other player listed at single-digits.
Let's look at the latest college football odds to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy.

2024 Heisman Trophy odds contenders
Travis Hunter (-400 to -330)
If you ask Gus Johnson, the Heisman race is already concluded. Travis Hunter has taken over as the consensus Heisman odds favorite following a dynamic Week 12 outing in which he made a highlight-reel grab, intercepted a pass, and rushed for a touchdown.

He rose to the +2,000 range after suffering an injury in Week 7 and a dismal outing in Week 8 (two catches, 17 yards vs. Arizona), but he bounced back in a major way by hauling in two TD passes while recording a season-high 153 receiving yards in a win over Cincinnati in Week 9. He also defensed four passes in that game for the now bowl-eligible Colorado Buffaloes.
Travis Hunter is by far the biggest liability at BetMGM, with the most tickets and betting handle taken in this market.
Ashton Jeanty (+350 to +380)
Boise State Broncos running back Ashton Jeanty was a 50/1 longshot when the year began and eventually became the 2-1 favorite in this market before a mid-season slip-up.
However, he went from fourth-choice to second-choice at the majority of sportsbooks we're tracking after a 209-yard night vs. Nevada in Week 11. A 159-yard, three-TD effort vs. San Jose state in Week 12 was enough to establish him as a clear-cut second choice, but he's losing touch with Hunter as the regular season dwindles.
Heisman watch: Latest news, odds movement
- Cam Ward's stock fell dramatically following the first loss of the season for the Miami Hurricanes. Ward went from a +200 favorite to a +800 or longer fourth-choice across the board heading into Week 12. Those odds lengthened to +1,300 over a bye week for Miami.
- Ward threw for 348 yards and three TDs with no picks vs. Georgia Tech, but his game-deciding fumble looms large as the season draws to a close.
- Kurtis Rourke opened at +10,000 to win the Heisman on September 22 and remained at that price until Week 10. But the Indiana QB dipped to +3,000 at BetMGM after a four-TD day vs. Michigan State, and saw his odds slashed in half after the Hoosiers beat Michigan in Week 11.
- The litmus test for Indiana will come on November 23 vs. No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus.

Understanding Heisman Trophy odds
Most sportsbooks will display odds in the American format as listed above. For instance, when Dillon Gabriel had +600 odds during Week 1 of the 2024 season, his odds had a plus (+) sign ahead of the number.
- Dillon Gabriel (+600)
That meant that a bettor stood to profit $600 for every $100 wagered on Gabriel.
Conversely, if a player had -600 Heisman odds, a bettor would need to wager $600 to make $100.
If American odds aren't your thing, simply use a tool like our odds converter to switch the odds to decimal or fractional format. Most online sportsbooks also give you the option to change the odds format that you see.

Heisman Trophy betting trends
Here are a few trends to keep in mind before placing a bet on the biggest individual award of the college football season.
- Quarterbacks have dominated this award over the last 22 years with 18 Heisman winners playing under center. Only one non-skill position player has ever won this prestigious trophy (Charles Woodson in 1997) and the last wide receiver to take home the award prior to DeVonta Smith was Desmond Howard in 1991.
- The Heisman trophy winner usually comes from a team with a shot at winning the national title, even though it is a regular season award. Since 2000, 14 Heisman trophy winners have played for teams that made it to the national championship game. If you're handicapping the Heisman, you might want to consider looking at which teams have the best chance of winning the title on the NCAA futures odds board.
- Even though DeVonta Smith won the Heisman in 2020, he is one of only four seniors to win the Heisman in the last 16 years. Over that span, two freshmen, five sophomores, and five juniors have claimed the prize.
