Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 169 yards on 25 carries to claim his first NFL rushing title and shatter Jacksonvilleกฏs franchise rushing record as the Jaguars swept the season series with a 19-13 win Sunday over the visiting Indianapolis Colts (2-14).
The loss gives the Colts (2-14) first dibs on drafting Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck with the No. 1 overall pick in April.
Jones-Drew wound up with 1,606 yards to eclipse Fred Taylorกฏs single-season franchise mark of 1,572.
Jacksonville (5-11) opened the scoring late in the first quarter when quarterback Blaine Gabbert hit Chastin West for a 23-yard TD reception. The short drive จC six plays for 35 yards จC started with great field position when the Jags forced Indianapolis to go three-and-out on their first possession from their own 1-yard line.
Gabbert finished the day 11 for 19 for 92 yards and a TD.
Adam Vinatieri kicked 48 and 20 yard field goals for the Colts, and Josh Scobee had a 25-yarder for the Jags to make it 10-6 before Jones-Drew broke a 56-run in the third quarter to break Fred Taylorกฏs record.
It also set up another Scobee field goal, this one from 32 yards.
Russell Allenกฏs first career interception led to Scobeeกฏs third field (47 yards) of the day. Scobee added a 39-yarder late in the game.
Austin Collie had a 12-yard touchdown reception for the Colts, who had their two-game winning streak snapped. Dan Orlovsky completed 7 of 8 attempts on the 82-yard drive.
