Broncos 51, Cowboys 48: Matt Prater kicked a 28-yard field goal as time expired and Peyton Manning outdueled Tony Romo to help visiting Denver escape Dallas.
Manning went 33-for-42 for 414 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for another score as the Broncos (5-0) pushed their regular-season winning streak to 16 straight games. Julius Thomas caught nine passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns and Knowshon Moreno ran for 93 yards and scored the tying touchdown from a yard out with 2:39 left for Denver, which went over 50 points for the second straight week.
Romo went 25-for-36 for a franchise-record 506 yards and five scores but was intercepted by Danny Trevathan with 1:57 left to set up Praterกฏs winning field goal. Terrance Williams led the receiving corps with 151 yards while Dez Bryant was right behind with 141 and Jason Witten added 121 for the Cowboys (2-3).
The Cowboys jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Manning went to work, throwing for touchdowns on three straight possessions and running for a fourth to help give the Broncos a 28-20 lead at the break. Manning and Romo went back and forth in the third quarter, with Romo hitting Williams for an 82-yard touchdown and finding Bryant for a 2-yard score sandwiched around a Denver field goal to pull Dallas within 38-33.
Morris Claiborne secured Manningกฏs first interception of the season with two seconds left in the third quarter, and Romo needed four plays to hit Witten for a 10-yard touchdown and Williams for the two-point conversion to give Dallas a 41-38 edge. The Broncos tied it up with a 50-yard field goal, but Romo and Bryant hooked up on a 79-yard pass to set up Cole Beasleyกฏs 4-yard touchdown catch with 7:19 left.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Manningกฏs rushing score was his first since Oct. 2008. His 20 touchdowns through five games surpassed Daunte Culpepper's NFL record. กญ Manning went 226 straight passes without an interception, falling three short of Denverกฏs franchise record. กญ Dallasกฏ 48 points were one shy of the NFL record for most points in a loss.
