Texas-San Antonio 52, Alabama-Birmingham 31: Eric Soza threw for 235 yards and two touchdowns and the Roadrunners raced out to a 24-point first-quarter lead en route to their homecoming game romp.
Brandon Armstrong and Kam Jones each scored two touchdowns as Texas-San Antonio (3-5, 2-2 Conference USA) snapped a three-game losing streak and posted its first home win. The Roadrunners set a school record with 523 yards of total offense.
Safety Nic Johnston played a big part in getting UTSA off to the fast start, intercepting a pass to set up Jones' first TD midway through the first before forcing a fumble that Crosby Adams III returned for a score for a 24-0 lead with 16 seconds left in the opening quarter.
Soza threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Earon Holmes and Jones scored from 27 yards out as UTSA eased to a 38-10 halftime lead while also setting school records for most points in an opening quarter and half. Soza later connected on a 51-yard scoring strike to Armstrong, who opened the scoring with a 22-yard run.
Jonathan Perry threw for 209 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Austin Brown for Alabama-Birmingham (2-5, 1-2), which never got the deficit under 21 points following the first-quarter blitz. Darrin Reaves scored twice and had a combined 116 yards for the Blazers.
