Georgia Southern 69, Georgia State 31: Matt Breida rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns as the visiting Eagles rolled up 613 rushing yards in a rout of the Panthers.
Georgia Southern (6-2, 5-0 Sun Belt) led 27-17 at halftime before dominating the second half of the first meeting between the two schools. Breida scored three of his four touchdowns in the second half, Alfred Ramsby rushed for two scores and quarterback Kevin Ellison added 115 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Donovan Harden caught 11 passes for 186 yards and four touchdowns for Georgia State (1-7, 0-5). Nick Arbuckle completed 24-of-38 passes for 408 yards and four touchdowns, but the Panthers rushed for only 47 yards and committed three turnovers while allowing the most points in a game in school history.
The Eagles built a 14-3 advantage after one quarter on Breidaกฏs 7-yard touchdown run and Ellisonกฏs 9-yard scamper, but the Panthers drew within 14-10 early in the second on Arbuckleกฏs 3-yard scoring pass to Harden. Zach Walkerกฏs 19-yard run two and a half minutes later established a 20-10 Georgia Southern lead, and after Hardenกฏs 59-yard TD reception brought the Panthers within 20-17, Ramsby scored on an 8-yard run with 6:12 left in the half to put the Eagles ahead 27-17.
Breida, who raced 75 yards on the opening play of the second half, added a 1-yard run and Ramsbyกฏs 5-yard run gave Georgia Southern a 48-17 advantage after three quarters. Harden caught a 35-yard touchdown early in the fourth quarter before Breida scored on a 61-yard run and Ean Days added a 15-yard TD run with 11:36 remaining to make it 62-24.
