Navy 41, San Jose State 31: Keenan Reynolds rushed for over 200 yards for the second straight season against the Spartans as the host Midshipmen took control in the second half and prevailed during Homecoming weekend.
Reynolds carried 39 times for a career-high 251 yards and three touchdowns for Navy (4-4), which surpassed its average of 342 yards rushing by 81 against the Mountain West Conference's top defensive team. Joe Gray was 33-of-46 for 322 yards and three touchdowns for San Jose State (3-4), which had a two-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-2 in the month of October in the last three years. Tim Crawley had eight catches for 102 yards for the Spartans.
Leading by seven in the third quarter, Reynolds ran for 93 of the 98 yards during a 13-play drive, scoring on a 2-yard plunge for a 31-17 edge with 5:49 left in the period. The Midshipmen proceeded to go 64 yards on 12 plays on their next possession, with DeBrandon Sanders finding the end zone from 8 yards out early in the fourth quarter to provide a 21-point bulge.
Gray threw a scoring pass and Tyler Ervin added an 8-yard TD run in the fourth quarter to bring the Spartans within 10 in the closing minutes, but they failed on two onside kick attempts. Reynolds ran for 119 yards and scored a pair of touchdowns as the Midshipmen took a 24-17 lead at intermission.
