Maryland 19, Wake Forest 14: Justus Pickett scored the go-ahead touchdown with a 1-yard dive on third down with 5:37 remaining as Maryland outlasted visiting Wake Forest to win its ACC opener.
Stefon Diggs took a short pass from Perry Hills up the middle and turned it into a 63-yard play to set up Pickettกฏs touchdown. The Terrapins (3-2, 1-0 ACC) had been shut out in the second half up to that point. Diggs finished with five receptions for 105 yards.
Tanner Price threw two touchdowns for Wake Forest (3-3, 1-3), including a 7-yard connection with Tommy Bohanon with 7:06 left in the third quarter that gave the Demon Deacons a 14-13 lead.
Wake Forest was without leading receiver Michael Campanaro (broken hand) and six other players, including four starters, who were suspended Friday for violating team rules. Campanaroกฏs replacement Terence Davis (seven receptions, 130 yards) caught a 73-yard scoring strike from Price only 53 seconds in for a 7-0 lead.
Freshman Brad Craddock responded with two field goals, including a season-best 52-yarder for Maryland. The Terrapins took a 13-7 halftime lead after Hills hit senior Kevin Dorsey with a 33-yard touchdown pass with 2:19 left in the second quarter. Hills threw for 191 yards.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wake Forest had scored in all 13 of its trips to the red zone this season before Maryland stopped it at the 1-yard line on fourth down in the second quarter. กญ Maryland leads the series 43-17-1. กญ Wake Forest had been allowing 237 yards per game on the ground, but held Maryland to 53.
