No. 25 Boise State 40, Southern Mississippi 14: Joe Southwick fired three touchdown passes and the visiting Broncos forced five turnovers to win their fourth in a row and keep the Golden Eagles winless.
D.J. Harper rushed for two touchdowns for No. 25 Boise State (4-1), which has scored 32 points or more in three of its past four games. The Golden Eagles (0-5) had committed just six turnovers in their first four games, but the miscues led to 28 Boise State points.
A 16-point second quarter helped Boise State put the game away. Harper's 11-yard touchdown run, which was set up by Tyler Horn's fumble recovery, began the surge. Michael Frisina added a 21-yard field goal and Southwick hit Chris Potter on a 33-yard touchdown pass after Samuel Ukwuachuกฏs fumble recovery, making it 23-0 at halftime.
Southwick finished 17-for-26 passing for 201 yards, throwing a first-quarter touchdown to Matt Miller and a fourth-quarter score to Kirby Moore. Harper added a 19-yard TD run early in the third quarter and finished with 51 yards.
Southern Mississippi running back Desmond Johnson led all rushers with 113 yards on 15 carries, including a 2-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Freshman quarterback Ricky Lloyd struggled, going 12-for-21 for 144 yards and two interceptions.
