Central Florida 41, Bethune-Cookman 7: William Stanback ran for 104 yards and two touchdowns as the Knights won their home opener.
Central Florida (1-2) lost to Penn State and Missouri to start the season but received a solid performance from Stanback, who averaged 6.9 yards on 15 carries. Justin Holman went 6-for-11 for 145 yards with touchdown strikes to Breshad Perriman and J.J. Worton for the Knights against FCS member Bethune-Cookman (2-1).
Central Floridaกฏs defense sacked Quentin Williams five times and limited the Wildcats to 173 total yards. Williams finished 9-for-12 for 102 yards and rushed for 32 yards on 17 carries.
Central Florida opened the scoring with a 37-yard field goal by Rodrigo Quirarte at the 5:26 mark of the first quarter. Bethune-Cookman answered with an eight-play, 76-yard drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by Anthony Jordan.
The Knights pulled away in the second quarter when Holman tossed a 35-yard TD pass to Worton and a 60-yarder to Perriman for a 17-7 advantage, and Quirarte gave Central Florida a 20-7 halftime lead on a 37-yard field goal. Stanback added TD runs of 9 and 2 yards in the second half sandwiched around Cedric Thompson's 1-yard plunge.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Neither team enjoyed much success on third down in the first half with Central Florida converting 1-for-6 and Bethune-Cookman going 0-for-6. กญ The Wildcats were penalized 17 times for 137 yards. กญ The Knights rushed 41 times, gained 169 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground.
