Syracuse 28, Stony Brook 17: Ryan Nassib threw for 335 yards and three touchdown passes, including a go-ahead score to Jarrod West, as host Syracuse thwarted an upset attempt by FCS Stony Brook.
Nassib tossed the 13-yard scoring pass to West on Syracuseกฏs initial drive of the third quarter as the Orange (1-2) snapped a seven-game home losing streak. Nassib also connected on a 61-yard first-quarter touchdown to Prince-Tyson Gulley and a 19-yard fourth-quarter score to Marcus Sales.
Miguel Maysonet rushed for 158 yards and scored on a spectacular 71-yard run late in the second quarter to give Stony Brook (2-1) a 17-14 halftime lead.
The Seawolves, ranked 17th in The Sports Networkกฏs FCS poll, led 10-7 after one quarter on Kyle Essingtonกฏs 63-yard touchdown pass to Kevin Norrell and a 20-yard field goal by Wesley Skiffington.
Syracuse went ahead 14-10 on Ashton Broyldกฏs 22-yard scoring run with six minutes left in the half.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Sales had five receptions for 117 yards. The touchdown catch was his fourth of the season. กญ Maysonet went over the 3,000-yard career rushing mark since joining Stony Brookกฏs program after playing his freshman campaign at Hofstra. His Seawolvesกฏ total stands at 3,148. กญ Syracuse twice came up empty in the second half on drives that reached the Stony Brook 3 and 1-yard lines as the Seawolves delivered two impressive goal-line stands.
