Texas El-Paso 42, New Mexico State 24: Aaron Jones ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns to help the host Miners win their sixth straight over the Aggies.
Jameill Showers completed 13-of-16 passes for 126 yards and a score for Texas-El Paso (2-1), which had a whopping 344-90 advantage on the ground. Darrin Laufasa contributed a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter to help the Miners take charge.
Tyler Rogers threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions to lead New Mexico State (2-1). Teldrick Morgan was the primary target, amassing 202 yards and a touchdown on eight catches.
Rogers hit Joseph Matthews for a 17-yard score just over three minutes into the contest, but Jones answered with a short TD run moments later and Laufasa had a touchdown catch and run in the second quarter to make it 21-10 at the half.
Following a scoreless third, Showers capped a 10-play drive with a 7-yard TD run on the opening play of the fourth. Rogers and Morgan hooked up from 57 yards out to pull the Aggies within 28-17, but Jones and Garrett Simpson had short scoring runs within two minutes of one another to open it up.
