Washington 21, San Diego State 12: Will Shamburger returned a fumble for a touchdown and Keith Price threw a touchdown pass as host Washington defeated non-conference foe San Diego State.
Bishop Sankey rushed for a score and the Huskiesกฏ defense forced three turnovers in their first game under new defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox.
Price, who passed for a school-record 33 touchdowns last season, completed 25-of-35 passes for 222 yards, including a first-half touchdown throw to Kasen Williams.
The Huskies led 14-6 at halftime and added on because of a huge defensive play. San Diego State receiver Colin Lockett fumbled the ball after catching a pass, and Shamburger picked it up and raced 44 yards for a touchdown to give Washington a 15-point lead with 10:13 left in the third quarter.
San Diego State pulled within 21-12 early in the final quarter on a 1-yard scoring run by Adam Muema but the ensuing two-point conversion pass was broken up to keep the contest a two-score game with 12:06 remaining.
The Huskies jumped out to a two-touchdown lead with Sankey scoring on a 2-yard run and Price connecting on an 8-yard scoring pass to Williams.
The Aztecs got on the board on the initial play of the second quarter when they snuck Tim Vizzi on the field late by the sideline and the Huskies didnกฏt notice. Ryan Katz hit Vizzi for a 47-yard scoring pass to cut Washingtonกฏs lead to eight points.
