Wake Forest 31, Presbyterian 7: Tanner Price threw for a touchdown and ran for another as the Demon Deacons overcame a sluggish start at home to defeat the Blue Hose.
Redshirt freshman Jonathan Williams caught five passes for 143 yards for Wake Forest, which scored 21 points off six turnovers and allowed 151 total yards จC including only 81 after Presbyterian used a 70-yard drive to take an early lead on its first possession. The Blue Hose did not convert their second first down until early in the fourth quarter.
Following a three-and-out on their opening drive, the Demon Deacons gave up a 66-yard run to Demarcus Rouse on their first defensive snap, which led to Tamyn Garrickกฏs 1-yard touchdown pass to Kris Hurley three plays later.
Wake Forest got a 31-yard field goal from Chad Hedlund to pull within 7-3 before the game was stopped for nine minutes late in the first quarter due to a power outage. The Demon Deacons used the delay to their advantage as Price hit Spencer Bishop for a 20-yard score three plays into the second quarter, and Price added a 3-yard plunge two drives later.
Linebacker Brandon Chubb stretched the advantage to 24-7 in the third quarter when he intercepted Garrickกฏs pass and ran it back for a 29-yard touchdown and Joshua Wilhite scored from 21 yards out following Presbyterianกฏs fifth turnover early in the fourth. Rouse rushed for a game-high 87 yards.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Wake Forest WR Michael Campanaro, who led the team with 79 catches in 2012, sat out with a hamstring injury. กญ Presbyterian has been outscored 148-10 in its last three games against FBS competition. กญ The Demon Deacons improved to 7-4-1 all-time against the Blue Hose.
