Kent State 17, Liberty 10: Colin Reardon connected with Chris Humphrey on a 42-yard touchdown pass with 4:28 remaining to snap a tie and the Golden Flashes held on to edge the Flames for their ninth straight home victory.
Reardon, who completed 21 of 28 passes for 194 yards and two scores, hit Humphrey (six catches, 88 yards) on the right sideline and he broke away for the winner. Trayion Durham recorded 92 yards rushing for Kent State, which lost running back Dri Archer to an ankle injury in the first quarter.
Liberty quarterback Josh Woodrum threw for 189 yards and a touchdown, connecting with Darrin Peterson five times for 106. The Flames were without 1,000-yard rusher Aldreakis Allen due to a suspension.
Kent State drove 75 yards in 14 plays after the opening kickoff and Reardon connected with tight end Casey Pierce over the middle for a 6-yard scoring strike with 6:56 left in the first quarter. Liberty capitalized on a Reardon fumble midway through the second quarter and pulled within 7-3 on a 20-yard John Lunsford field goal with 2:55 left in the first half.
The Flames took a 10-7 lead when Woodrum lofted an 11-yard touchdown pass to Gabe Henderson in the right corner of the end zone with 7:25 left in the third. Anthony Melchioriกฏs 39-yard field goal for Kent State tied the score at 10 with 10:57 left in the fourth.
