Led by Jared Rhoden's double-double, six Pirates scored in double figures to lift No. 25 Seton Hall to an 85-63 win over Wagner Wednesday night in Newark, N.J.
Rhoden finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds for Seton Hall (5-1). Tyrese Samuel also had 15 points, Jamir Harris scored 12 and Kadary Richmond totaled 10 points, nine assists, six boards and four steals.
Alexis Yetna added 11 points and Tray Jackson chipped in 10.
After a close first half, the Pirates shot 60.6 percent (20-for-33) from the field after intermission. Samuel scored 12 of his 15 in the second half.
Wagner (2-1) played its first game since Nov. 13 after multiple positive COVID-19 tests forced the program to postpone three games. The Seahawks did not have head coach Bashir Mason nor leading scorers Alex Morales and Will Martinez available on Wednesday.
Raekwon Rogers led the Seahawks with 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting.
Seton Hall never trailed, but it needed about 24 minutes to nab its first double-digit lead. The Pirates scored 16 of the first 20 points after halftime to jump ahead 51-37, with Samuel making a layup and a dunk to punctuate the run.
The Pirates used an 11-0 run later on to blow the game open. Another Samuel dunk with 2:25 to play made it 81-61.
It took less than five minutes for Seton Hall to establish a nine-point lead, but Wagner fought back. Rogers went 5-for-7 in the first half to lead all players with 10 points.
A quick 6-0 run late in the half pulled Wagner within two, causing Seton Hall to call a timeout with 59 seconds left. Out of the timeout, Ike Obiagu threw home a dunk, but Rogers responded with a jumper in the final seconds to trim the Pirates' halftime lead to 35-33.
Eight Seton Hall players scored during the first half, though they combined to go 3-for-9 from the foul line.
