NEW YORK -- Jorge Bonifacio hit a go-ahead, two-run home run with two outs in the seventh inning, and Danny Duffy pitched seven solid innings as the Kansas City Royals rallied for a 6-2 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Bonifacio gave the Royals a 3-2 lead by slugging the first pitch he saw from Adam Warren (1-1) into the right-center-field seats. It was Bonifacio's sixth home run and second in as many nights.
Lorenzo Cain started the comeback with a long homer off Jordan Montgomery, and Whit Merrifield provided insurance with his fifth home run to start the eighth off Jonathan Holder.
Mike Moustakas added his 11th home run with one out in the eighth when he turned on a 1-1 fastball by Chasen Shreve and reached the second deck in right field.
Those home runs were enough for Duffy (4-3), who beat the Yankees for the second time in five days. Duffy allowed solo home runs to Aaron Hicks and Chris Carter among six hits.
He compensated for allowing long balls for the first time in seven starts by getting seven strikeouts, giving him 17 in the two starts against New York.
Montgomery exited to a standing ovation after allowing one run and two hits in 6 2/3 innings. Shortly after his 98-pitch outing ended, it began unraveling for the Yankees as Warren allowed a base hit to Salvador Perez before Bonifacio slugged the fastball into the seats.
Montgomery lost his shutout bid when Cain slugged a 1-2 fastball into the left seats, ending an 0-for-14 skid.
Duffy retired the first 10 hitters before Hicks lifted a 1-1 fastball down the right field line and a few rows over the wall for his eighth home run.
The Yankees took a 2-0 lead with two outs in the fifth when Carter hit a 2-1 breaking ball into the lower rows of the left-center field bleachers. They loaded the bases on an infield single by Matt Holliday but Castro flied out to deep left field.
