My Senators analysis
The Ottawa Senators have been one of the most inconsistent teams in the NHL this season. They have such a strong roster on paper but have struggled to put together complete efforts night in and night out. Defensively, the Senators have been way too leaky and tonight is a good opportunity for them to work on tightening up their defensive zone against an Anaheim Ducks team that does not score a ton of goals.
Linus Ullmark is set to get the nod in goal for the Senators, and his play this season has been a little disappointing. Ullmark is 5-7-1 with a .886 SV% with a 3.09 goals-against average. That said, he has never had a season with a save percentage below .900%, which tells me he will find a way to pick his game up and improve his numbers.
Offensively speaking, Ottawa has struggled to create scoring chances at 5-on-5. They're generating the third-lowest high-danger chances per 60, only averaging 8.71 at 5v5. The man advantage has helped their offense, though, as they have the league's third-best power play, converting at a 28.2% clip. Captain Brady Tkachuk has the seventh-most power-play goals in the league.
November was a struggle for the Senators, who finished with the sixth-lowest goals per game, just scoring 2.43 per night. Tim Stutzle, Drake Batherson, and Tkachuk were the only Senators who were producing at a consistent rate, and they will need more secondary scoring from guys like Josh Norris and Shane Pinto if they want to compete for a playoff spot.

The current total is 6.0, and rightfully so because neither the Ducks nor Senators have a lot of firepower. The Ducks have scored three goals or fewer in four of their last five games, while the Senators have tallied three goals or fewer in five of seven.
Lukas Dostal will be the story of the game for the Ducks because he has arguably been the biggest surprise of the season thus far. The 24-year-old boasts a .922 SV% with a 2.72 GAA but is suffering with a 5-7-2 record because the team in front of him is not very strong in its own end.
The Ducks allow the most shots per game (33.5) and the most high-danger chances at 5v5 (13.76), so the Senators will certainly have the opportunity to turn things around offensively, but they'll have to test Dostal.
Not only is Dostal putting up strong numbers, but he leads the NHL in goals saved above expected (+13.2), so even if the Senators do buzz offensively, Dostal will be there to back up his blueliners and make the game frustrating for guys like Stutzle, Tkachuk, and Batherson.
