President-elect Donald [the convicted felon/fraud] Trump issued a directive to congressional Republicans, telling them to tank a unanimously approved House bipartisan bill that would protect journalists from being spied on by the government.

"REPUBLICANS MUST KILL THIS BILL!" Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The Protect Reporters from Exploitative State Spying (PRESS) Act passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support earlier this year. The bill's sponsors, Democratic Representative Jamie Raskin and Republican Representative Kevin Kiley, celebrated its passage in January, with Raskin saying that the vote moved the U.S. "closer to establishing our first federal press shield law ever."

First amendment protects freedom of the press.  World press freedom index ranks US 55th out of 180 countries.  But right wing media tends to spread more fake news than left wing media.

There is no good reason for Trump to oppose the PRESS act other than his sick desire to investigate the free press for exposing government corruption.  Reporters without borders warn that Trump has made thousands of threats over years.  But first amendment protects freedom of the press to hold government accountable.  His vindictive retribution against the innocent won't make America great.

More fan fiction. We've made it this far without the Press Act. We made it through a years of Trump without the Press Act. Why now is it so necessary?

Anonymous sources are the worst. They allow for these tabloid "journalist" to just make up stories and when questioned, they can simply cite an anonymous source. It's the worst. If you're gonna print it, you better make sure it's factual. You better vet your sources, and said sources better be ready to go on record. So called "journalist" of today are absolute scum. They don't deserve protections.

News media needs protection more than ever although defendants win over 75% of defamation lawsuits.  Powerful people are increasingly using expensive lawsuits.  Not to obtain compensation for injury to reputation.  Instead they are intended to punish media for speaking truth to power and to dissuade it from doing so in the future.  The last thing society need is greater disincentive to report government corruption.

Republican house passed a bill that would allow creation of over 65 new REPUBLICAN judgeships

Bad idea to prosecute January 6 house committee for several reasons.  Trump would need democrat help to implement legislative priorities because of small republican majorities in congress.  Also public would be reminded about the horrors of attack on capitol and Trump role which lead to impeachment.  Since committee members have really done nothing wrong, prosecution could turn them into martyrs.
