Perfect recipe for disaster.

Mike Collins, who represents the district where the school shooting happened yesterday, says ¡°it¡¯s not the right time to talk about¡± gun control, and that the solution is: ¡°We¡¯ve got to get back to God in this country.¡±
When is the right time to talk about gun control?
Fuck the warm thoughts and prayers!
They are not the resolution to the problem.

I see they arrested the father.
He bought the gun for the kid as a Christmas present. What an asshole!
The kid says he asked everyone for help but no one would listen.
He's gotta name names ...teachers, family, police etc.
Parents need to be held accountable for the actions of their kids.
People/society failed this kid.

@Midnight1
Dad bought the gun AFTER the local sheriffs office spoke to the family about this type of situation as they were tipped off from some discord posts that may have been made from this child. Again, we have a people problem. Family failed to raise this child properly and failed with gun control. Maybe, politicians needs to ask for parental control as much as they preach needing more gun control (they preach gun control as a divisive political tool to divide red and blue in the sole name of politics). Gun control failed, because of a person and sadly innocent lives have been tragically taken in the name of evil. Maybe politicians needs to remind parents how to raise a child because society alone can not raise children. If they spent more time preaching parental control, maybe they'd make a difference. They won't because they don't want to offend anyone and it's easier to blame guns and needing more gun control because it's provocative and divisive.
@unplucked_gem Hopefully this is a good start. Hold parents accountable for their children, and/or let kids be tried as adults.

"Parents need to be held accountable for the actions of their kids."
There is ZERO chance any parent can 100% know what's going on in their kids life and/or track and monitor every aspect. Maybe young kids, but a 14 year old, no chance.
Every text, every call / convo, online search, girlfriend / boyfriend interaction, school activities, etc it is not possible. To that end, kids as observant, crafty, and get into stuff.
The premise of holding parents responsible is faulty, just the start, and most certainly won't be limited to guns and mass shootings.

@unplucked_gem
If a child commits a crime the parents should be held accountable, unless the parents request the courts to hold the child accountable and tried as an adult. Parents raise the child, and lack of parental control early in a child can lead to problem children. Hold the parents accountable, or allow the parents to allow the courts to hold the child accountable as an adult. Either way, we need to stop this soft punishment on children. Stats show kids that commit crimes are likely to commit them as adults.

Accused Georgia school shooter's father weeps in court, faces 180 years in prison*.
How did this father give an AR-style assault weapon to a 13 years old kid as a Christmas present in last year, senseless and incomprehensible.

He gave the 14 year old the gun AFTER authorities spoke to the family about this exact situation. We have morons in this country. Maybe we need to start giving tests to people before they can reproduce.

I will never understand the purpose for these types of weapons in our society, look at this wacked out family how could these people be responsible to be sold a weapon like this? The mom has charges from years ago the dad looks mentally imbalanced and out to lunch and yet in this country if you have a pulse and are not foaming at the mouth you can get a weapon which can kill large numbers of innocent people in seconds. How does having these serve a good to the public? You cannot hide behind the founding fathers when the harm being done with the weapons far exceeds what their intentions were by using that outdated and flawed wording which the gun lobby has stretched like silly putty for centuries now in order to sell more more more weapons.
This country will never stop allowing weapons to be sold, the innocent children and adults that end their lives due to greed and selfish fear means they have no voice. Those kids and teachers that are killed will be swept under the rug and the blame as ALWAYS from the gun enthusiasts will be that people kill people, not guns. There is never a line drawn to the weapons we allow in the hands of citizens its always the fall back blame on the deranged citizen that either uses it for harm or does not properly secure it from laziness. We should have stopped these from being manufactured and sold multiple decades ago, yet tomorrow there will be more sold and the circle of death will continue.

My brother lives like 15-20 minutes north of here. I was just there a month and change ago. As amatter of fact, even though my brother has a hig house with plenty of space, and the plan was to stay kn his guest room, when I was considering a room to have a little creep off spot, I want to say the only placea I saw were in Winder. There's no hotels/motels near my brother but I believe it was Winder that had like a La Quinta or something. Ultimately it would've been a waste.
I digress. The one thing I will say is people definitely carry out there though the area is pretty rural, and carrying for personal protection is probably unnecessary unless you're going into Atlanta or something. If I lived thwre, I would carry too. I carry most times here and it's also rural and probably unnecessary. I am a gun enthusiast. I have no problem giving a child a rifle. Just not an AR-variant until he's 18. You start off child with a .22LR Remington or something. Henry's are having a resurgence in popularity. Get him a nice lever action Henry. And keep the ammo locked up.

Their purpose is sport and personal protection. I have always supported changing background check laws. I do not support an all out ban.

@StumpTownStu
There is no sport with weapons that can and do kill innocent people in seconds, what is the greater good of having a weapon that can kill to the magnitude these do all so there can be some "sport"?
Sport is skeet shooting or target practice at a range not having a clip to spray death in schools or at a concert or in the middle of a mall...that isnt sport and it serves LESS of a purpose and good than it could ever provide.
The militia/government stuff never holds water please dont even try to rationalize with that..it is such a mirage tool used by the NRA it just is embarrassing and insulting to the hundreds and thousands of lost lives at the hands of these weapons.

You love to place arguments in people's mouths. The sport is shooting the weapon. Some people enjoy shooting. Some people prefer automatic rifles for home protection. They are a good option for many people.

In any given year, for every person murdered with a rifle, there are 15 murdered with handguns, 1.7 with hands or fists, and 1.2 with blunt instruments. In fact, homicides with any sort of rifle represent a mere 3.2 percent of all homicides on average over the past decade.
Given that the FBI statistics pertain to all rifles, the homicide frequency of “assault-style” rifles like the AR-15 is necessarily lesser still, as such firearms compose a fraction of all the rifles used in crime.
According to a New York Times analysis, since 2007, at least “173 people have been killed in mass shootings in the United States involving AR-15s.”
That’s 173 over a span of a decade, with an average of 17 homicides per year. To put this in perspective, consider that at this rate it would take almost one-hundred years of mass shootings with AR-15s to produce the same number of homicide victims that knives and sharp objects produce in one year.
With an average of 13,657 homicides per year during the 2007-2017 timeframe, about one-tenth of one percent of homicides were produced by mass shootings involving AR-15s.

It is simply low-hanging fruit. Politicians and the media seem to always focus on the current and 'loudest' issue, instead of the overall major problem.
Many, many other issues with firearms and violence need to be addressed as well.
Simply need to enforce the laws and raise the kids better, etc.

If you are going to quote me then you better do it correctly. You took liberties DOOD and changed my quote, go back read again and then apologize for the fake reply you made.
And the greater good is not serviced by the harm done, so glad you like to use an AR target shooting and to protect at home, society is harmed much more than the benefit of your fun toy.

It absolutely is low hanging fruit. Of course these storiesbare much more alarming when they involve children, and when they involve safe spaces like schools and churches, but people suffer from what I call selective outrage. They're clutch their pearls and wave their fists in the air and say, "This is horrible! We need to do something!" but there are all sorts of horrible things going on everyday in this country. Remember when ghost guns were a hot topic? They aren't anymore. Do you think people stopped being killed by ghost guns? I wonder how many people were killed by a ghost Glock with a 3D printer select fire switch just in the past week. No one actually really cares. Are any of you guys aware of some of the sick abuse going on in the foster care system? We could definitely reform the system and stop a bunch of it. No one really cares though. They do it for the 'gram. Semi-automatic rifles aren't plaguing society.

You are so combative, it is astounding you are a moderator. I simple misread your quote. Whatsit corrected me. I thanked him. That's all. And frankly, as Raiders numbers have shown, even "hundreds and thousands" is quite hyperbolic. It changes nothing. I owe you no apologies.

And I didn't say I use an AR for home protection. I said it's ideal for some. Specifically those protecting acreage. AR-15 style rifles aren't even my fave range rifle. I prefer bolt actions chambered all literally a dozen other rounds more than anything chambered in 5.56/.223. However, AR15 style rifles are good general rifles. And parts and ammunition for themnis abundant.

A ban on assault-style weapons, high-capacity ammunition clips, and products that modify semi-automatic firearms to enable them to function like automatic firearms, and background checks on all gun purchases*.
*What research says about preventing school shootings
Coalition of National Researchers Release Violence Prevention Plan has listed the ban of assault-style weapons as the first level that we need to prevent gun violence in the US.
Ban the assault weapons, 53% of all registered voters strongly support assault weapons ban. Plus 12% of all registered voters somewhat support the ban. 34% of Republican voters also strongly support the ban*.
