2.5k bet with a 20k bankroll is way too much in my opinion. I stick to the 5% rule.

just to jump on here, in addition to stepping away, if you come back just play micro-limits and/or just bet and track for fun. go back to your fundamentals and make sure you arent gambling for entertainment but are analyzing/capping correctly track your mistakes and adjust and then start bigger. and yes when you do BRM is critical. unit size should be 1-3ish% IMO (max of 5%) per wager.
Good luck with the break

Thrill betting is an addiction just like booze, drugs or sex. You build a "tolerance" and need to bet higher and higer. You have delusions of grandeur. It won't stop
THIS!
I've been at this for 45 years and what I have learned is that if gambling is an addiction for someone, then it will always be an addiction for them. Similar to alcoholics and addicts, you don't ever lose that addiction, you just learn to avoid it.
Lots of advice in here about the OP stepping away for a period of time to clear his head. I know this advice comes from a good place, but the truth is the OP needs to step away for life.
I'm not trying to sound like a know-it-all, I just pray that the OP is in enough emotional pain to decide he has had enough. Don't be ashamed to get help if need be

I¡¯m 2 years into gambling and glad I found covers because there are some helpful and insightful information that some of you cover veterans share. But I also appreciate that you guys support those in need of comfort after a bad beat.

Giving comfort and all is good but this is not a bad beat.
Bad beat are Tampa Bay failed to cover against the Eagles, Patriots against the Boys, and the Steelers against the Hawks ... even with that, if you can't just smile and move on, you should not be gambling. These bad beats will fuck with your mind.

I had a really great run with college football but also took the Bucs and Steelers to cover this past week. So yea bad beats but I put in those wages with the mentality that an upset or moose was in the making for those games.

Spot on Family ...I feel for our Brother , doesnt matter what he lost ...It was a brutal loss for him ...I feel for him ..
A sports bettor must have money management or it will only get worse over time....I pray that betting from the app doesnt pass here in NY ...I'd probably go back to a flip phone if it does

I would like to surmise there are no bad beats! Just wins and losses. Pick slightly more winners than losers and a money management plan and you will make money.
Imagine if you never watched the game you bet on and only looked at the score after, you would say to yourself I was right or I was wrong. Then start looking at the stats from the game to see why you thinking did or didn't pan out. If you never see the plays it doesn't F with your brain!
The losers:
The problem lies in the psychology of gambling, the highs are never as bad as the lows, and that messes with your thinking! The gambler then starts to make poor decisions and do not stick with their MM plan.
Second, most losing sports bettors do not have sports betting plan, they make their bets by gut feeling, they only remember what they have seen lately, example: Buffalo destroying Houston and KC.
Third, most losing sports bettors, especially here on Covers, make picks on every FN game, why? - For the action. You can't tell me every Monday night game is the best line out there for the week. They force the bet.
Finally, they blame others because they do not have discipline themselves!

i'm sorry bro, i have been there too, losing $5000 bets was my max, but don't take big moneyline favorites, you will lose sooner rather than later. not worth it. i hope you feel better and you will make that money back again1 god bless and stay positive!
