Georgia Tech 35, Virginia 10: Synjyn Days rushed for a career-high 147 yards and Justin Thomas threw for three touchdowns as the host Yellow Jackets kept pace in the ACC Coastal Division.
Days surpassed his previous personal best of 110 yards จC set in last weekกฏs victory at Pittsburgh จC and added one rushing and one receiving touchdown as Georgia Tech (7-2, 4-2 ACC) remained one loss behind Duke in the division standings. Thomas completed 7-of-13 passes for 141 yards and DeAndre Smelter caught a touchdown while finishing with four receptions for 107 yards.
Virginia (4-5, 2-3) rushed for only 22 yards จC 13 from Kevin Parks, who came in sixth in the ACC in rushing จC in losing its third in a row. Greyson Lambert completed 19-of-32 passes for 230 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
The Yellow Jackets scored on their first two possessions, including Deon Hillกฏs 14-yard touchdown run and Thomasกฏ 18-yard scoring pass to Smelter to build a 14-0 lead 11 minutes into the contest. Lambert brought the Cavaliers within a touchdown on a 13-yard scoring strike to Zachary Swanson late in the first quarter, but Thomasกฏ 11-yard TD pass to Darren Waller on the opening snap of the second quarter re-established a 14-point advantage.
Virginia cut the deficit to 21-10 on Ian Fryeกฏs 22-yard field goal late in the first half, but Days capped a 12-play march to start the second half with a 4-yard run to make it 28-10. Thomas found Days for a 17-yard touchdown with 7:01 to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Smelter posted his fourth 100-yard receiving game and is 86 shy from 1,000 career yards. กญ Parks, who averaged 76.4 rushing yards per game entering the contest, finished with only five carries. กญ Georgia Tech has forced eight turnovers in the past two games.
