No. 6 Florida 31, Vanderbilt 17: Quarterback Jeff Driskel rushed for 177 yards and three touchdowns as the No. 6 Gators remained unbeaten in SEC play by defeating the host Commodores for the 23rd consecutive time.
Driskel scored on runs of 37, 13 and 70 yards and Caleb Sturgis kicked three field goals as Florida (6-0, 5-0) took a one-game lead on South Carolina in the SEC East. The Gamecocks lost at LSU 23-21 later Saturday night.
Vanderbilt (2-4, 1-3) cut Floridaกฏs lead to 24-17 on a 22-yard field goal by Carey Spear with 2:35 to play. Driskel responded with a scintillating 70-yard run in which he outran the Commodoresกฏ secondary to make it a 14-point game with 2:20 left. Driskel set a Florida record for rushing yards by a quarterback, breaking Tim Tebowกฏs 2007 mark of 166 against Mississippi.
The Commodores struck first on a 10-yard pass from Jordan Rodgers to Jordan Matthews with 6:45 left in the opening quarter. Driskel got Florida on the board with his 37-yard keeper and Trey Burton ran in a two-point conversion to give the Gators an 8-7 advantage.
Florida led 11-7 at halftime and boosted the lead to 11 points when Driskel scored on a 13-yard scamper. Sturgis booted a 29-yard field goal 1:30 into the final quarter before Zac Stacy scored from the 1 to pull Vanderbilt within 21-14 with 8:57 to play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida didnกฏt allow a fourth-quarter point in its first six games before allowing 10 to the Commodores. กญ Vanderbilt has lost 16 consecutive games against ranked foes. กญ Gators running back Mike Gillislee had 67 yards on 17 carries, well below his SEC-leading average of 109.6 yards per game.
