Washington 17, No. 9 Stanford 13: Kasen Williams broke loose for a 35-yard touchdown reception late in the fourth quarter as the Huskies shocked the visiting Cardinal.
Bishop Sankey rushed for a career-high 144 yards and a touchdown for Washington (3-1, 2-0 Pac-12), which ended a four-game losing streak to Stanford (3-1, 1-1).
The Huskies, who outgained the Cardinal 313-217, trailed 6-3 at halftime and appeared to be on their way to a hard-luck loss after quarterback Keith Price was intercepted by Trent Murphy, who returned it 40 yards for a touchdown to give Stanford a 13-3 advantage.
But Sankey gashed the Cardinal defense for a career-long 61-yard scoring run on Washingtonกฏs next possession as time expired in the third quarter and, after an exchange of punts, Williamsกฏ catch-and-run gave the Huskies a 17-13 lead with 4:53 remaining. Washington then intercepted Josh Nunes on Stanfordกฏs final possession to preserve the victory.
Stepfan Taylor, the conferenceกฏs second-leading rusher, was held to 75 yards on the ground for the Cardinal.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Prior to Williamsกฏ touchdown reception, Washington had not scored in the fourth quarter this season. Ironically, Stanford had yet to allow a fourth-quarter score. กญ The Cardinal had won their last three road openers and conference road openers. กญ Stanford entered this contest allowing just 41.7 rushing yards, but surrendered 177 to the Huskies.
