The Carabao Cup continues on Wednesday, October 30 with Tottenham Hotspur vs. Manchester City.
Both teams will be hoping they can make their way to the next round, but neither side is likely to play a full starting lineup of strikers.
See how that will play into the Citizens' hands as I make my Tottenham vs. Man City predictions and free betting picks.
Tottenham vs Man City picks and predictions
My best bet:
Man City moneyline (+135 at TonyBet)
My analysis
Man City are top of the Premier League and have won three on the spin. Not only that, but they’re unbeaten this season, managing to avoid defeat in all 14 of their games across all competitions.
Meanwhile, Tottenham lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace this past week, a humiliating defeat that now means they’ve lost two of their past three games. They’re already 10 points behind City in the league.
The one thing to note with the Carabao Cup is that both teams are very likely to rest players. Last time out, Spurs played a lineup that was predominantly their second string, with Timo Werner and Wilson Odobert alongside Dominic Solanke, who was working his way back from injury. It’s likely that Richarlison will take his place alongside Werner and Odobert here. We’re also likely to see Ben Davies and Radu Dragusin at the heart of defense too.
City are almost certain to rest Erling Haaland and the likes of Josko Gvardiol and Bernardo Silva. Last time out in the Carabao Cup, we saw Pep Guardiola choose to start Phil Foden as a false nine. It also means we’re likely to see some of the best youngsters at the club play, with James McAtee and Nico O’Reilly amongst those numbers.
It’s hard to predict a winner using recent league form, given that we’re not seeing either team at full strength, but we can look at how both teams usually do in this competition.
The League Cup is a competition that Guardiola has historically taken very seriously. We haven’t seen Man City win it in the past three years, but they won it for four years in a row between 2018 and 2021. They’re also very familiar with knockout competitions and have become used to winning games and reaching the latter stages in the FA Cup and Champions League, far more than we’ve seen from Spurs.
We can also look back to 2021, when there teams met in the League Cup, a game which was won 1-0 by Man City.
This will be a heavily-rotated Man City team, but their second string team is still full of internationals and youngsters with the world at their feet. It’s not often you get City at plus money, so it’s worth taking against a Spurs team who are struggling right now.
Tottenham vs Man City same-game parlay (SGP)
In addition to my best bet, I'm also going to back Man City to score Over 0.5 goals. Spurs have seen their opposition score in the first half in their past two Premier League games. Not only that, but Man City have scored first-half goals in each of their past eight games across all competitions.
I'm also going to back Man City to have Under 29.5 booking points. You get 10 points for a yellow card, and 25 for a red card. Man City have averaged just 2.1 yellow cards per game and are unlikely to have a lot of bookings given it’s a cup game and has less riding on it.
