The Los Angeles Rams will try to solidify their playoff position this weekend as they visit the New York Jets in Week 16 action.
My Rams vs. Jets predictions believe the offenses should dominate in this matchup, which is why I’m backing the Over.
Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. ET from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, with the game airing on CBS.
Rams vs Jets predictions
Rams vs Jets spread prediction
The spread for this game sits at an awkward three points, which is always a tough number in an NFL game given how many games are decided by a field goal. The Rams are the better team here, and Covers Consensus shows 76% of users are backing Los Angeles on the spread.
I think there are better ways to bet the game, but if I had to pick a lean, I’d be going with the Rams as well, as they’ve covered in three straight.
Rams vs Jets moneyline prediction
I’m leaning hard towards the Rams on the moneyline in this one. Los Angeles has won four of its last five, including a huge win over the Buffalo Bills. That’s the kind of result the Jets could only dream of achieving, as New York has struggled mightily to get results against solid, playoff level teams.
The Jets have won only twice in their last 11 games, with those wins coming against a depleted Jacksonville Jaguars squad and the Houston Texans. The Rams should get the road win on Sunday.
Rams vs Jets Over/Under prediction
The Jets can’t seem to win games, but their offense is humming along, having scored 21+ points in each of their last four games. Outside of an ugly game against the San Francisco 49ers last Thursday, Los Angeles has been impressive as well, averaging Over 28 points per game over their prior four outings. Neither defense is all that great, and both teams are trending above the total, so I like the Over a lot.
My best bet
Over 46.5 (-110 at BetMGM)
My analysis
As bad as the New York Jets have been, they can’t place all the blame on Aaron Rodgers.
At age 41, Rodgers is no longer putting up great numbers, but he’s been solid enough, especially over the past month or so, when the New York offense has actually looked like a legitimate NFL unit. Over their last four games, the Jets are averaging 26.5 ppg.
Of course, the Jets have only won one of those games. At this point, the real blame should be on the New York defense, which seems to be stuck in a pattern of “don’t break, just bend.”
While the Jets are allowing just 5.2 yards per play, an elite number in the NFL, they are allowing a relatively poor 23.2 ppg, seemingly finding the worst times to allow big plays and long drives.
A dreary outing in a 12-6 win over the 49ers has depressed Los Angeles’ offensive numbers, but that came on the heels of a 44-point outburst against Buffalo. In the four games before that trip to San Francisco, Stafford threw for 10 touchdowns and no interceptions, and is likely to add to those numbers on what looks like a good weather day in New Jersey on Sunday.
The Jets have hit the Over in four straight games as they trend towards higher-scoring football, and the Rams also went Over the total in three of four before last Thursday’s debacle. Both the matchup and the trends are pointing clearing in the same direction, which is why I’m taking the Over in this game.
Rams vs Jets same-game parlay
I see the Rams getting the best of this shootout in New York, and that gives me a couple extra legs to throw on my same-game parlay. Along with the Over, I’ll take the Rams on the moneyline.
I’m not so sure about the spread here, but the Rams are a relatively small favorite, which means betting on Los Angeles still comes with solid value – and they should be able to score a win against a Jets team that has been awful at closing out games against quality opponents this year.
In what should be a relatively close and high-scoring affair, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford should be able to get Over his passing prop of 240.5 yards.
While Stafford had a quiet game in that ugly win over the 49ers last week, there’s no reason to expect that against a Jets defense that has been average against the passing game overall. Stafford has hit this total in six of his last eight games and should get Over that number on Sunday.
