A sports betting oddsmaker that services major U.S. sportsbooks recently filed a lawsuit against its competitors.
B2B provider Swish Analytics accuses OddsJam and OpticOdds of “misappropriating” the company’s proprietary odds from sportsbook clients and profiting off of that information, according to a court document obtained by gaming lawyer Daniel Wallach.
The complaint, filed in San Francisco Superior Court, says the defendants used “scraping” from Swish’s licensed partners FanDuel, bet365, and others to “undercut” the odds provider.

Swish estimated that OddsJam and OpticOdds cost Swish at least $100 million and claims those two sites are hurting the entire industry.
“By free-riding on Swish’s hard work and investment, Defendants are reaping where they have not sown, and are destroying incentives for Swish and other independent developers of sports-related odds information to continue investing the time, effort, and money to independently generate that odds information,” the plaintiff claimed in the court filing.
Scraping accusations
Swish accuses OddsJam and OpticOdds of copying “time-sensitive” odds from third-party sportsbook sites through automated retrieval methods and unauthorized access to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).
Swish says those competitors then republish the odds on their sites and sell access to them. The plaintiff claims OddsJam promotes "real-time odds for main betting markets alternate markets, and player props from 100+ sportsbooks.”
“Defendants have attempted to directly compete with Swish by offering sportsbooks or similar enterprise customers access to Swish’s own proprietary information in an intentional effort to maliciously harm and unfairly compete with Swish,” according to the document Wallach obtained.
Company backgrounds
Founded in 2014 and based in San Francisco, Swish Analytics promotes that it provides oddsmaking, risk management, and trading software to sportsbooks.
The sports betting and data technology company has partnerships with major sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, Major League Baseball, NHL, NCAA, ITF, and ATP. This and the company’s technology help Swish provide real-time odds for betting markets, player props and microbetting to renowned operators.
OddsJam offers subscription-based sports betting tools and odds to customers. The company was acquired earlier this month by Gambling.com Group for $160 million.
OpticOdds is a similar business that offers an odd-screen product using APIs and odds comparisons from more than 200 sportsbooks that are designed for sports betting traders.
