From one specific screename sender? Or would it require a court order?
Lot at stake here. Sister is in a real spot with her husband that has been cyber harrassing her for 7 months. We have 100% tracked him as the source as of today. Marriage is over needless to say but I'd like to get the copies that she deleted from her yahoo account.
Thanks much if you know of how to get them or what may be required.
Long story but I'll leave it at that.

The police, however could go into his hard drive and pull out his activities, and if he didn't delte them, they will still be in his "sent items" section in his email. I doubt he's erased anything, since he's the harrasser. Probably keeps them on purpose.
She's going to have to convince the police that she's being threatened via the internet, which is against the law....(stalking laws, etc. using the internet to commit any time of crime against another is something they take seriously. They would then go take his computer and check it out, especially after he lies and denies it.
Hope that helps Rickey.....

Not sure they can after you delete them

If it is more than 24 hours ago and they have been deleted from the trash bin they are gone. Deleted from Yahoo's servers.
At least that is what Yahoo is saying. However i do not know if the police might think otherwise.
If your sister have replied to any of his emails, you might find something in the "send" folder. Usually you would be able to see the original message there + the reply.

I don't know much about this stuff but I find it hard to believe that Yahoo doesn't keep these emails for a while. If you get a court order, I am sure Yahoo would be able to dig them up somehow.

Thanks guys. This whole thing is pretty ugly. Had an IT guy on our staff track a couple other ones that pin her husband to his office from 2 seperate isp's so we're 99% sure. My sister responded to none of the verbally abusive/stalk toy name it... 8 month string of emails from one particular screename off of yahoo. I have emailed them and they have moved it up to the tech dept for response.
She of course is in horror. Being the protective brother I am opened a case with Salt Lake PD detective unit to follow up on his activitities.
I suspect he deleted his hardrive once I contacted him to let the man know we traced his antics but Yahoo I'm told by county holds everything on a mainframe...deleted from origination or not.
What a nightmare.

...and Dennis. The threat is borderline there in the emails but not solid enough for me to provide the police with 100% positive.. If it were clear as day I'd have his hard drive in the morning.
