What is your thoughts on Windows 7 ?

I just installed the 32 bit Ultimate version on my laptop. Since i only have one gig of ram installed i can not run all the options, but it does seem to work well.

It has taken a little getting used to the different layout and options since i am coming from Xp.

So far i do like it quite a bit. I like that it is easy to burn, play music, i like that i can boost the memmory with an usb pen, and also that i can put quick links to programs in tool bar in the bottom.

I like it a great deal. Have been running it for about a year and think it will start to take over XP in a couple of years. The XP mode on the ultimate version is what will finally win the XP business people over.

Lippsman, i have a problem with windows 7. Most of my applications , drivers and such got sorted. I have an acer aspire 9300 laptop. So i was able to download vista drivers for most of it.

However i can not get the buildt in microphone to work. I googled a bit and saw that other windows 7 users have the problem.

Do you know any solutions to this?

I got it fixed, i think, when i started to play with some settings in windows.

Sorry, just saw this. There are a ton of new features to do with sound. You just have to bang around in there. May not be a bad idea to set a restore point whenever you start to muck around

Yeah one problem though is that when i crank up the sound to the max it echoes. Very weird.

How high do you have it cranked up? Full blast ?

Yeah, i need to adjust it to 50% to avoid the echo.

Lippsman are you using the memboost?

Since i only got one gb of ram i am thinking the memboost could be a good thing for me. I am thinking about maybe purchasing a 4 gb usb stick and use it as memboost.

My question though is it worth it. Will i notice a difference. I have read both pro and cons for it ?

I would just max out your internal memory. It's much better than using the readyboost.

Yeah well the problem is that i only got 1 gb. Originally i had allocated 250 mb to the graphics card in XP, but i had to go into my bios and allocate only 64 mb to the graphics card, to get close to the 1 gig that is needed in Windows 7.

I am thinking about maybe putting some more ram into my Acer. I know there is 2x512 DDR2 Mb in it now. It's max capacity is 4 gb.

DDR2 667 SoDIMM seems to be the max i can run.

A final question, if i install 4 gb, should i then upgrade to a 64 bit system?

I have a dual core amd turion processor. Is the 64 bit system better (quicker) than the 32 bit?

It may not be.....Unless the software is written for a 64 bit CPU, the speed increase isn't really that much.

Personally I would just get the memory and see how much of a speed increase you notice. Now your 32 bit system will not see all the memory. You will only see between 3 and 3.5 gig.

no because its not worth it

just bump what lipps said and all your really going to gain is 1GB of memory which honesty you prob don't need because it wont make your computer any faster itll just be able to handle more operations at the same time without slowing down

to maximize your ram speed get the ram that runs as fast as your system bus speed

and on upgrading to 64 bit its pretty complicated because it involves changing CPUs and those are not cheap

You can't just upgrade your CPU to 64 bits. You have to change out the motherboard and memory also. So you will pretty much be building a new computer.

Got my 4 gb installed. Seems to be working alright. I can only make use of 2.94 gb since there is one giga reserved by hardware and can not change it in my bios. But i will just have to live with that for now.

I like the aero preview windows on the task bar that show what you have open when you mouse over them. My favorite thing by far.
