Hey guys, web traffic question. I'm not an html guy, but I do have a couple of websites.
My
new website is for my very legitimate business. I have the exact same
meta tags, same keywords, same title tags as my competitors sites. But
when I google our businesses, my site is not even in the ball park,
it's not even on the first ten pages of results.
Fictitious
example: I have a flower shop, it's called MWC Flowers. I google
"flower shops, las vegas, nv" and MWC Flowers doesn't come up, even
though my html tags are the same as the other websites.
What gives? Any advice...
Thanks.

Unless you purchase ad space from Google or whatever search engine you are using you are just going to be SOL. The rankings are based on website hits and untill you start getting hits you will be low on the totem pole.
It used to be you could use metatags and such but those days are long gone.

Thanks Lippsman, I knew webhits played a big part, but I've also been reading that Google rankings are based on an algorithm, which includes webhits, but other factors as well, including keywords, etc.

It's a bit of a guarded seceret with them. But most people think that just putting a ton of keywords in the page that will move you up. Just isn't true anymore. Going to take time and more time. And don't fall for the scamsters that will say they can get you at the top of the heap. It will just your cash.

I'm an SEO person. New studies show that organic traffic does not convert as highly as paid traffic. Don't waste to many resources on organic results. You can set up a Google advertising account for a minimum of $5 a day. People who come to your site thru paid search have a higher per transation dollar amount AND a higher conversion rate in general. They are ready to buy. Organic search people are generally in the fact finding stage and are not ready to buy. The Google comes with free analytics which is invaluable. You can use that data to improve both your paid and unpaid results. That intel is also valuable for finding the keywords your competition is NOT hitting - you can grab some low hanging fruit that has a higher conversion rate that way. Worth it in my opinion for $5 a day. PM for help. I have managed many a paid and organic search strategy.
