I checked the web, this is apparently a problem that has been afflicting craigslist for over a year. They have not been able to solve it.
The spammers have broken the CAPTCHA code. Maybe a tech brreakthrough. Or there are reports they are paying the poor but English speaking Indians $4 a day to actually read and reply to the codes, and press the Send button with the spam/scam.
All the spam comes from gmail for some reason.
Question: is there a way to block gmail from coming to my yahoo address, which I use for craig listings? (I'd put in listing that gmail is blocked - sure, spammers can then contact thru another account they have, but likely won't want to take the time. Mass mailings is their thing.)

As of right now I don't think so. I just listed some 23" monitors last week and I of couse got the broken english, "I want purchase your srceens. They are what business I need. I will send out check next day and have courier pick them up in a few days"

Also I got the work at home spams. Most of the people on Craig's list are looking for something that is a givaway in the first place.

Most of it is along the lines of "Do you need a loan," or "Having trouble finding a job?"
It all derives from gmail. And I think you're right - while blockiing one particular email address is easy, I don't think it's yet possible to block all messages that come from an email provider. If i could block all from gmail I would.
Don't know why craig even bothers with the CAPTCHA anymore - it doesn't work. I saw some suggestions on thier discussion board that asking a user to solve a simple math problem [ 9 + 7 = ?} or to fill in today's date in your time zone.
But craig really has done nothing (nothing effective) - and I understand the invasion of the spammers/scanners has been going on for over a year.
What's needed is a hit squad to track them down in whatever country, and to quickly and quietly terminate them
Their spam can be forwarded to spam@UCE.gov (the Fed Trade Commision anti-spam divsison) but i doubt that's going to have much effect.

I haven't had any problems with Craigslist myself, sold a few things on there with no issues at all. Pretty good for getting job responses as well compared to the big job sites.
Maybe Craigslist should just block any traffic outside the US from accessing the US based want ads areas. Doubtful they'd ever do it, but it would remove pretty much any of that nonsense.

I have a question for you guys, in the past I've been able to post in all sections of cl freely. for whatever reason now they require you to sign up for an account to post in for sale and casual encounters, not only that, after multiple posts they have started "ghosting" my ads...meaning they tell you the ad has been posted but it can not be seen, and now it has gotten to where they don't even bother sending a link to post or edit your ad, you only see the message, "this ad will be deleted in 30 days."
so basically they're saying, "we don't want you to post, and we're not going to defend our position." I've done some research and have some possible solutions...
1. I read you should use a proxy server and change your ip address often, exactly how do you do that?
2. if I use a different computer will I be able to set up a different account, or do they track it by ip address?
3. the call back system where you must provide a phone number to validate your account, will that work on a virtual number you get from voip?
any help in this matter would be appreciated

lipps, I read you can reset your ip address by doing the start and run then enter cmd and enter the phrase "ipconfig/release", then enter "ipconfig/renew" is this correct?
