In my years of betting I have found that every once in a while an event will come around that bettors can exploit to make some serious money. I don't know when the next one is, but in my experience when sporting associations launch a modified tournament, or modified pre-season structure, or introduce a new rule is when Books have no information to go off and as such their lines are all over the place. But you need to catch it as it happens, here's a little story.
A few months ago the Australian Netball Association had what I believed to be a pre-season event with the following rule changes:
- Two halves rather than four quarters
- A marked zone further out from the goal where, if a player scored from within this area, it would count as 3 goals instead of 1. (this is the big factor)
As a result, the majority of teams were doing their best to shoot from the 3-goal area and as such, Total Goals were quite high, but the Books had no idea what to the totals at. After watching the first 3 games, all went well over 50 goals, some hit the 60's. But the Books had no reacted and their lines for the next 6-8 games were all around 35.5 - 36.5. I put together a parlay of all the games to go over and managed to turn $500 into 12K without barely raising a sweat. All games hit the over with over a quarter of the game still remaining.
I'm not here to gloat or preach, but keep an eye our for these opportunities. They are a gold mine when they come around.
Best of luck!

Hello all,
This is more of a discussion than anything else.

This was not the intention of my post at all. I am not here to post after games saying look at me I won I won. I used a personal experience as an example to show that there might be benefit for all of us in the FUTURE.
My purpose was for people to keep an eye out for future events that are spin-offs of standard sports or in a modified format as I don't think Books have enough information or react quick enough.
I apologise if I came across as anything but helpful.
Good luck to all!

Good for you, peekay! Anytime someone can kick their bookie in the nuts, I'm all for it.
Does remind me of a promo that ran in Vegas few years back where some friends/acquaintances made big bucks over a short period of time (low six figures) and didn't tell me about it till it was done....

The NZ domestic rugby comp is switching to 8 points for a converted try and reducing a penalty kick to 2 points, I believe. That might knock the bookies a little off kilter early on. Something to be aware of, especially if you play totals like myself.

Nope the austrasian league switched to the last last year and the bookies were onto it from day 1

I bought this topic up a while ago and although this is still in it's early stages and many months away, the AFL is considering trialling a 16 players per side format instead of the normal 18 players in the next pre-season competition which from memory starts in February?
I personally think this will lead to a higher scoring, more open free flowing game. The counter to it is players may get more tired and slow the game down but I believe today's players are trained and fit enough to run all day.
It will be interesting to see what "Total Points" lines the bookies set but don't be surprised if this is a great opportunity to exploit.
I've noticed in some of these competitions the bookies can be slow to adjust their lines so if we see how the first game plays out we may be able to apply a similar trend to the future ones.
