Quit overplaying suited connectors, especially UTG. Negreanu does it a lot, but he cannot figure out why his game has gone to shit. In SNGs, do more speculating with flops when blinds are cheap, and tighten up when the blinds go up and the players dwindle.
Also, as a previous poster stated, do not underestimate the value of position. And pick up on players tendencies so you know how to maximine your winning pots and mininimize your losing ones.

ditto this-
To me the one thing is to play boringly good poker and then to find the guys at the table that are good enough to bluff. Most of these jokers at the small limit games will call you down with nothing so you need to have good hands. The key is to pick out the guys who can lay down a hand and thus can be pushed off hands but to have the goods against everyone else. This holds true for all of poker I guess

know when to hold'em, and know when to fold'em / know when to walk away, and know when to run ...
Also, dont ever count your money when youre sitting at the table, there will be time enough for counting when the dealings done.
Now every gambler knows, the secret to survival is knowin what to throw away and knowin what to keep. Cuz every hands a winner, and every hands a loser, and the best you can hope for is to die in your sleep.
and somewhere in the darkness, the gambler he broke even!!!!!!!

Just play your game. Dont "check dark" cuz you saw Hellmuth do it on TV an you wanna act cool. Dont reraise 67suited in into 3 people cuz you heard you gotta be aggressive with suited connectors. Play ABC, tight poker, and dont get impatient and you will beat the low stakes hold em games ($50 and under tourney buy-in and less than $2 blinds cash game) no doubt.
Also, if I was teaching/coaching a new player i would tell them to almost never bluff on the beginning. A main problem I see with new/inexperienced/bad players is they jusy have this mindset that they can never let a pot go, they gotta bluff everything and while "being aggressive" is what you always hear the pros preach, that advice is moreso for a tough, somewhat high stakes game with some quality players, not the absolute donk loose drunkfest that most of these low stakes games are. Bluffing is simply NOT a powerful weapon in these loose games im describing, the players are simply too loose for continued bluffing to be profitable. Im not saying "dont bet unless you have the nuts", you still have to throw your c-bets out there and there will be spots here and there where a little bluff is a nice play but my message is, dont get caught up in any all-in over the top bluffs with total air in these games.
Start playing supertight and loosen up as you get more experienced, instead of the other way most beginners start off which is playing EVERY hand and slowly tightening up as they get more experience. Aggressive is good, loose is not. Most people cant tell the difference between the two but there is a huge one.
Ill post more as i think of stuff, GL

The poker player at a local bar that I have had conversations with is completely irrational, but your advice is spot on. I see him in most poker players that say they rarely lose, and he thinks HE is a genius, but is a lying blowhard instead.
Electric, I would love for you to see his irrational, arrogant blog, and for you to tell me what you think. Everytime I disagree with HIM and back it up with facts, he just calls me a bitter loser. I cannot stand that prick. Under google, type in "Yelle poker" and tell me what you think.
