Btw I have no problem with Trump wanting to look into the refugee problem I am neither for or against that (to be honest I couldnt care less what you guys do regarding that) - But I think it is a bit ironic and “rich” that a nation built by immigrants don’t want immigration - and I also Think it is “stupid” to have “enemies” that close by you - but that isn’t my problem

All that stuff isn't free for you. You pay for it in taxes. I don't know much about Denmark but I know a fair bit about Norway. And Sweden. And I would imagine Denmark is similar in the way of high taxes.
Al the stuff you're babbling about exist for fre in the United States in some form. The difference is you guys have to figure out how to provide for 5 or 6 million mostly ethic Danes. We have to provide for 400 million of whoever and shows up on our doorstep. It is not the Danish way to provide for the undocumented. We do though.

We have high taxes but in the end they aren’t that much higher than what you guys pay - a few procentage higher (they are just charged differently) - but I will give you that you probably can’t do it one to one like we do - because it is “easier” to become super rich in US by far for instance - where they are kind of punished here - so the system are of course different - but Stu. Lets stop this comparing stuff then (that is for a Big part my fault I know) but it doesnt change the fact that if you want to be the greatest nation in the world (as many of you claim) your goverment should focus a bit more on improving these factors among other rather than having your leaders looting and hoarding money for themselves and instead use some of them to enrich you guys life - and first when that happen you can claim to be the greatest nation

From the outside at least it seems like your entire system is built around enriching the 1% and the rest of you are working slaves until the day you get sick and then they won't even pay for your sickness, but just let you die if that is the cheaper option and replace you with the next person in line and if you are rich enough to get an education (you are almost lucky to get out of school without getting shot) - maybe that is a bit too dramatic, but if it even resemble something like that - you aren't even close to being the greatest nation - that sounds more like hell on earth

Are you for real???? The US is by far the greatest nation in the world and it's not even close..of course, this is in the eye of the beholder, but our nation provides more of just about everything that most nations cannot dare to compare or compete with...are we perfect, hell no, but our bad is only heightened because of who we are and what our nation represents...are there other great nations in the world, hell yes, but none that provides what America provides to its people and our land and the freedom....
You should just stop with that because you are embarrassing yourself with comments like that....America is the best nation on so many different levels if you look at it in terms of economics and way of life...we have major problems but that is going to be with 400 million people in it as Stu explained....if we scaled back to 5 million people we'd be the pinnacle....you cannot compare apples to stones....get yourself a couple hundred million more people and then we can talk....look at Russia at about 140 million and you think they are doing well....they don't take care of their people for shit....
Joke

At the outbreak of Covid, China was nailing doors, putting bars on windows, and welding metal security gates shut, locking people into their homes so that they could not leave. Would anyone want to leave America for India? How about Pakistan? Yeah, we're not perfect but the alternative...

I think we got off on the wrong foot when I made a joke about invading/occupying Greenland. I think many Europeans form their opinions of Americans based on our geopolitical machinations but also on a healthy dose of cable news and social media. So to many, we look like a corrupt country whose citizens are a bunch of oafs. Just a bunch of wild cowboys. Well, we are a bunch of cowboys but we are not oafs. And we would expect our brothers from across the north sea to tell sentiment from clear humor.
Now for second. Let me just say that Denmark is a wonderful country. All of the Scandinavian countries are. I have never been to Denmark but I have been to Norway and Sweden. And I plan to visit Denmark and Finland eventually as well. The contributions of the Scandinavian countries on a per capita basis are insane. From old world industry, ship building, etc to new world tech, pharmaceuticals, etc, to natural beauty and quality of life, Scandinavia is collectively a crown jewel of the planet but...
...but let all of this, and all of you opinions and misconceptions of America serve as a cautionary tale.
This is the stark reality of the next few decades for a country like Denmark.
Pressured by the western world, you guys will break from established policy and continue to let increasingly more refugees in. This is already happening. Driven by continued economic prosperity, the cost of living will continue to increase. The newly arrived refugees will fill jobs deemed low paying and too menial for ethnic Danes and other Scandinavians/Northern Europeans with Danish citizenship. The country will begin to operate as a fuedal society. A serfdom with a ruling class of ethnic Danes and Northern European (white) professionals and the serfs who clean your houses, work in your restaurants, tend to your children, etc who will all be African, Middle Eastern, and Eastern European (Mostly non-white). Crime will increase, as it always does when introducing a class in the lowest possible economic rung on the ladder. This will increase tensions, which will lead to hatred. A segment of society, and government, will emerge that is extremely nationalistic and intolerant of immigrants and non-ethnic Danes. This will give rise to neo-nazi style groups. This is already happening all across northern Europe. And the best part is, given how hard it is to gain citizenship in Scandinavian countries, these refugees won't even have the rights and full benefits of citizens. Healthcare won't be guaranteed. Schooling won't be guaranteed.
You will be a country of white "haves" and non-white "have-nots" who exist on the fringe of society, filling service industry jobs, barely making enough to get by in a country with such a high cost of living. Never gaining full citizenship. Cycled through and kicked out. And when this happens, I want to to keep this same energy. I want you to remember how America doesn't do right by it's people, and how Denmark has it all figured out.

Denmark is a beautiful country but vastly different than that of any place in America....values are different and lifestyles are different, but not that there is anything wrong with that....we are just different in may various aspects but the coutryside is beautiful and the people are very nice, or at least they were to me and my family and the rest of us that were there as a soccer team to play the danes in some of their premiere clubs as a kid...

The answer to that emphatically and unequivocally yes... and no. American universities are filled with students from all across the developed world. American companies are filled with employees from all across thecdeveloped world. In a global economy, with global industry, one has to pull from a global talent pool. So given adequate reason, i.e. school, work, etc, tons of people want to at least live in America.
As far as just wanting to be American, no. People from developed countries rarely want to just give up their citizenship and live somewhere else. Most people leave their home for work, for love, or for family.
There is one exception to this, based purely on my own anectdotal observation. I have known a fair share of Canadians expats who have lived in the US for decades and are US citizens. Some came for work, sure, but not in the same way as, say, a Scandinavian. When you meet a Scandinavian, not someone of descent but an actual Scandinavian, they are almost always in tech, or pharmaceuticals, etc. Of all the Canadians I have ever known, they have always had regular jobs. Some in the trades. Some just working menial service industry jobs.

I just looked it up. There are about one million Americans (US) living in Canada. There are over eight hundred thousand Canadians living in the US. For context and population percentage, there are about 40 million Canadians and about 340 million Americans. Draw your own conclusions from that info. I'm just posting numbers. Revisiting your question though, I reiterate my answer. Yes and no. Given the right reason, yes but without one of the main three reasons, work, love, family, most people don't even leave their home state/province, let alone their country. How many people from Ontario ever pick up and move across the country to B.C.? Talk about two separate worlds.
With that said, I would 100% move to Canada.

Just so it's not lost in the shuffle, I have to say that if you started this interaction with posts #53 and #54, there's nothing that I could've really said to refute you. All of this stuff is very nuanced, very multifaceted but you're not wrong.

I actually agree with benhogan76 that you seem to be one of the posters here who is actually well-versed and has some good points (that we don't agree on a lot of things isn't a problem that is what makes it fun - and I "forgave" you for the Greenland comment a long time ago ).
Again, my happiness is not tied to you guys hating the US (even I don't), but I think you guys deserve better and you wouldn't even come close to being the greatest nation in my book - but that you are happy and believe that it is - is just great, after all it is you who live there, so it would be worse if it was the other way around.

And if you have been to both Sweden and Norway and are from the US - you have basically already been to Denmark (as it is more or less just a hybrid of those 3) :) The 3 Scandinavian countries are basically the same people - Denmark is maybe a bit more a discount version of the cities you guys have compared to the other two - where they are way more beautiful nature wise - if you like nature etc. I would also suggest Faroe Islands (which we also "own") they are very pretty

@Cranky_Hank Look at you Mr glass half full They should have a Ted Talk any day on where 15/16 million Dem 2020 votes disappeared to
The TED Talk would be about how incredibly sexist our country is that they'd rather put a convicted felon, impeached former president back in power simply because he is not a woman
/end TED Talk

Are those numbers people living in either country or working in? I would be curious as to how the numbers would change if Canadians who are retired and are living in US were taken into account. I would also live in certain spots in US with no issues . I appreciate the response.
