You said it yourself, you bet. Nowhere did you say betting was your job and that's the only way you make money in this world: when this is your job.
For the rest of us, it's a question of how much of our disposable income we want to, or can afford to burn. Rule 1 of any type of wagering is the longer you do it, the probability of you losing increases. House advantage, right? The saying was never 'the player always wins...'. Vegas was built on the tears of losers, not winners and 99.9999% of us are the former.
Find you happy place when you wager. If you what you lost this weekend made you sad, reduce that amount. You shouldn't deprive yourself of what is arguably the most fun you'll have as a tax paying adult. Find that financial sweet spot where you can still wager but be OK with how much you lost come Monday. If it's $20 or $2,000, only you know where that spot is.
I chuckle at people who say they win. The hours they spend "researching" to achieve a small payout, not realizing had they did some actual work (like mowing somebody's grass), they'd come out earning more and working less. Anybody who ever told you they win money never mentions how much they've lost. Guess what I won $10 Grand this weekend! Oh, last week I lost $11 Grand. Missed that part...
Don't quit. Be smart about what you can afford to lose and it will work itself out. Good luck.

The last couple paragraphs are what you know to be the truth. You want to hear from some guys telling you that they're not addicts and can control it? Okay, believe them if you want, either way tho, is listening to them going to stop you being frustrated from losses?
I doubt it, because if you watch the NFL you can see how many of the games are practically coin flips for the spread near the end. Teams cannot finish games at all, and the refs and coaches often seem determined to ensure a comeback happens. It's supposed to be exciting down to the wire stuff. That's fine for some. It's not what you want when large sums are involved. It's so hard to just get a game to end without a blown lead.
Off the top of my head, SF fumbled in the red zone and lost, they lose every game with double digit leads being blown. Jags were up 14 in the 4th win by 3. Most of the games were close in the early slate, SNF down to the wire. All the TV games the first couple weeks were (every eagles game i remember for sure came down to the wire the Barkley game in Brazil, the Cousins raping, the NO game...
You're right it's not actually fun if you lose a lot of games in a row, it's stressful if you're betting a substantial amount. These idiot jocks get paid so much and still get the most untimely penalties, drops, injuries, etc.
And so the only way to make it 'fun' is to bet amounts that won't bother you to lose (ie: lower your unit stake, which I have done the last few years until playoffs/bowls) but a lot of guys cannot do that because then they feel like what's the point and if they win they're not happy to win that smaller amount, go right back to betting bigger and lose again. especially if they have the mentality that they 'need to get back' weeks, months or years worth of losses. Which is insanity.
I've been saying for the last few years I'm on the verge of quitting. I hate the new NFL with these coaches that go for every 4th down. It's ruining my enjoyment having to sweat out so many 4th down decisions and also it's just a total farce. The networks WANT more volatility in the games you can see them pushing a big graphic out ok every 4th down ANALYTICS SAYS GO.
But all i see is teams getting stuffed... Is that data really old from when the trend first started? It can't be right still...
Besides that it is just the same crap, too many ads to sit through, too many videos reviews to sweat out, and every game the last 2 mins of the half no one can play any defense any more and the flags are flying esp in the end zone, and the clock stops about 20 times between 6 timeouts and 2 minutes warning, then a guy gets a cramp etc.
I stopped playing poker when I ran out of patience waiting for mouth breathing donkeys to act and thinking im wasting so much time sitting here waiting for someone to throw me two pieces of painted plastic card to peek at for a second. I'm losing patience for watching the NFL too. It's all fixed to come down to the wire and now we just have more guys being brainwashed and addicted now that it's legalized.
Now that it's so mainstream it's turned me off it because it's invaded the broadcasts so much it basically is the entire reason for sports now and I wonder how a man can introduce his son to sports without exposing him to gambling when they have all the spreads and totals everywhere you look now and bookie ads with annoying Kevin Hart etc.
Betting on sports is for the sheeple now. It's going to cause huge problems in the US for a lot of guys. Especially in their relationships. It's an obsession that can eclipse everything else for certain people.

After a certain amount of years you realize that whatever about the money, you have spent very significant time and headspace on these 3.5 hr games not including all the thinking before you place the bet and watch, include that and it's pretty crazy. And it always ends pretty much the same way. And you start to think as you get older and time gets shorter, is it still the thing I want to spend all this free time on? Or is there more to life than trying to predict what will happen when a bunch of overpaid lunkheads run fast towards each other with a funny shaped leather ballon. Which is all football fkin is at the end of the day!

You think you have it bad, some can relate and have it worst.
I have a win loss statement from the casino that I pulled for tax write off. Six figure lost years after years. I didn't know I make that much money. Where the money coming from? It comes from side hustling, non taxable income like sports betting n other black market under table stuff.
But my vice is this. I have gotten so deeply involved with sports, any sports betting that one year that I told myself to stop the nonsense. Betting is easy. We have offshore accounts and betting is just a phone click away. Sat for college ball is the worst. I would wake up n still in bed from morning till the last game which is the Hawaii game. Nothing gets done and I was a handicap in my own home. Even when I'm able to go to parties n family gatherings, my mind is not there. I would sit in a corner by myself and play games and keeping tabs of them scores. I even played when the USA is still in darkness as there are international games going over there on the other side of the world.
I still play but not as much or as addicting. I play what I can afford to lose. I pick n choose my games. I don't need to chase or play every games. I even bet it n forget about it. It stopped the addiction craving. I can't leave it altogether but I will when I have priority. Right now I'm not married or have children but if I do, the baby needs milk first before I even bet a single game.
I hope you find your answer quick before it consumes you. Only you can stop yourself.

I will say this. I have been gambling for 45 years and even thou i enjoy it and have won some years and lost some years, if i could go back and change things in my life, never STARTING GAMBLING WOULD BE AT THE TOP OF THE LIST. The amount of time i pissed away on this shit is staggering. The amount of family dinners and get togethers that werent fun, because i had money on games breaks my heart, cause i can never get that time back. Its gone and lost forever. I grew up in a gambling environment with every aspect of it around me daily, so i was destined to gamble. If a young kid takes the money they were gonna spend on gambling and put into any kind of long term investment fund, in 30 years they will have more money then they could have ever won gambling and on top of that, they wouldnt have pissed away their lives on this awful bad habit. Its too late for me, this shit is part of my DNA now and at 62, what exactly am i gonna do now, lolllll. All the legalized gambling, is gonna bury all the young kids. I feel sorry for the youngsters, they arent gonna be ready for whats coming their way. They have said only around 5 percent of all gamblers in the world actually win gambling. I sure hope those kids are part of the 5 percent or they have rich parents to help them when things go south.
Sota, dont know how old you are, but if your still young, get out now.
I wish you good luck and hope things work out for you
