It's the story of two poor farming families in Mississippi after WWII. There's one white family & one black family who both have sons returning from the war. One was a fighter pilot & the other was a tank commander.
When one of the fathers ask his son "how many did you kill over there son?", he replied "more than one."
It reminded me of when I've been asked that question, my reply has always been "one too many."
It's a sobering movie & well worth the time.
