It's difficult to see and understand these types of things when you are living in the day to day grind.
The Devil Rays are a once in 100 years team. Yes, I will say that right now.
Now the question is, what will you do when faced with this level of excellence?
If I told you at the start of the season that there was a team that had a high chance to win 115-120 games, how would you decide to play it?
A smart person would realize that the EV (expected value) given there required them to play every single game as over the season it would prove very profitable.
But the books don't want that. They don't want you to play a game every day that has an 80-90% probability to win. They want you playing coin flips or maybe 60% shots at best. They want you to play a lot of games.
What I have seen here on Covers is people trying to catch a falling knife and predict when the streak ends as if that is some kind of achievement.
The boring, non exciting grind of playing a once in a 100 year team seems to not attract the attention seekers.
It's early in the season. You will still see the books putting out lines like today's -130 with the Rays on the road in Toronto.
Like the Blue Jays and Berrios are some kind of real competition to a 100 year team.
Don't reach your hand out toward the falling knife, my friend.

So many Einstein's in the forum. Just keep betting Tampa Bay till they lose. Like any streak to win money in baseball. Bet on teams riding streaks and bet against teams on losing streaks.

That¡¯s exactly the logic many have. Breaking news they do not have to go 162-0 to make a boatload of money. Never did I read Adamvictorian say I will keep betting the Rays and rolling it all over to their next game. If that was the case I probably would use your argument Europeandreamer. They probably win at least 4 out of their next 5.

The Tampa Bay Rays the last 15 years have been one of the best in the league consistently. Not sure im gonna give them once in a lifetime status quite yet. Im sure they're gonna be good this year and can win people money this year, but 115-120 wins? Maybe your right, but lets see where they are in another month first.

Who said im letting it go? I jumped in at 8-0, so im alittle late to the party, but im just saying i wouldnt guarantee anything at this point. Maybe they will be 35-8 in a month, but maybe 3 starting pitchers will be hurt in 2 weeks. Like i said im gonna try and enjoy this now and we will see if what your saying comes true in a month.

I'm not trying to talk anyone into betting the Rays. So I can get shittier lines. Line moved from -107 to -127 for a reason. So stay away from betting the Rays they are due to lose very soon.

I haven't checked into Covers for some time due to Covers not having a big, as we Americans call it "soccer" and the rest of the world calls it football but:

Since when and why?
on the play Van. I always appreciated your threads..
"Schrödinger's bet." A bet that loses when you bet it but wins when you DON'T bet it...
