I had the opportunity to stay at the Flamingo this weekend. I go to Vegas at least once a year and have been for over 25 years.
Let me start out by saying that Most of the time we would stay at the Stardust until they closed a few years ago. We have also stayed at the Imperial Palace, MGM, and the Excalibur and at the Mirage. We spend the weekend gambling. We don't go to shows, the pool, and site seeing is never on the agenda. It's Blackjack, Craps, and betting on Football. Most of time we gamble enough to get some comps but truthfully we are not looking for them.
The problems started with an e- mail I got from the Flamingo offering me an upgrade to their "Go" room for an additional $30 per night. I called them and for the 3 nights I was told with tax it would cost an addition $96. I said okay and asked them to just charge my same credit card I paid for the room originally. They said I would have to do that at check- in. When I got there I was the addition charge was $113. It was only $20 more but it was the principle. When I asked why it was different then what I was told on the phone they said that whoever I talked to gave me the wrong info. When I told them I had a form e -mail that said it was $30 a night they started telling me about hotel tax, bla bla bla. Whatever. It still sucked that they are probably doing this to everyone who is upgrading. Seems a little off the cuff to me. Anyway I didn't want this to ruin the weekend so I just let it go.
Friday night I was sitting at a full blackjack table. The women next to me has a A 7, the deal has a 10 showing. The woman puts up another $10 and wants to double down. The dealer says to her "No, you don't want to double down". They have a 30 second conversation about it and the dealer pushes her $10 back and refused to give her a card. The dealer then turns over a 6 and then draws a 4 for a 20. The woman who wanted to double down would have had a 21 and lost (so did the rest of us). She started to complain very loudly and the pit boss told her to leave. I have never seen anything like it. Oh yes, most of the rest of us got up and left also. In case anyone is interested this occurred at the tables in an area called the Party Pit.
Saturday night me and my daughter were sitting at "Bugsy's Bar". We both put some money into the video poker machines and started playing. We both ordered a beer. The bartender made a comment to us that we had to play "Max" credits. At this point we both were. We blew off his comment because we just figured he wanted to be a hotshot because my daughter is young. After a few minute of playing my daughter got down to about 10 credits and started playing on 2 credits per hand. Somehow, and I don't know how, the bartender either saw this or was told and walked over and took her half full beer away. LOL. She was pissed and all I could do is laugh. Dude, it was just a fucking beer.
Maybe it's just me but I am used to the Vegas hotel employees being friendly, wanting you have a good experience, and not giving you shit or trying to tell you what your doing is wrong. I didn't feel that way at the Flamingo. I almost felt like they had the attitude that it was a privilege for me to stay there.
And comps. Yeah, there were none. Someone told me that Harrah's owned casino don't comp well. I don't know that for sure but there were none.
And to top it all off, Sunday morning some guy committed suicide in the bathroom right outside the casino. Yes it was a great time had by all.
