Post opening thoughts on Cosmopolitan

Interested in everybody's opinions... Pro's & Cons

As far as I know not much of a sports book, but I would either go next door to the Bellagio or make the trek to the Hilton to place my wagers.

Have they figured out and improved upon the mistakes they made during the first few months of operations?  Check-in delays, Housekeeping mishaps & delays?

I'm at a point where if I'm going to travel out to LAS all the way from LGA,  I don't mind getting a nice room / eating well as part of my trip.  If I'm going to be making 4 figure sports bets and sitting at a $100.00 BJ table I don't mind spending the money for a nice room and nice meals as well... It's all part of the vacation budget as I get older.

Back when I lived out in LA I would take the trip regularly.  I've stayed at pretty much all of the resorts from the old motor lodge @ the Stardust, to the IP, Excalibur, Luxor, The Glass Pool Inn, the Old Trop, Hard Rock, Mandalay Bay, The Hotel, The Mirage, Bellagio, MGM, etc

Do you guys think this is more of a couples place or can guys go and make the most of the environment?

As to the Sportsbook, which is located on the 2nd floor....It is run by Cantor Gaming....Why would you go next door to an MGM property when you can get Cantor's more complete line of options?

As to the amenities.....quality, quality, quality.....Think of it as a boutique hotel. Not certain what you heard about the rollout....But this is a great facility...I would compare it, on your list, to theHotel; which is Michelin 4-stars.

Since I'm unfamiliar with the sports book @ The Cosmopolitan, I'm working primarily from pictures I've seen on the web.  The sports book looks rather small so I have two concerns that would make me think of going to either The Hilton or The Bellagio; finding a seat on an NFL SUN, and the energy level. But hey, Isn't that why I'm asking? I realize your opinion is well respected on things "Vegas".

As far as the rollout goes, I'm referencing what I've read on VegasTripping regarding check-in and maid service.  I think it goes without saying that certain issues go hand in hand with openings... such as long lines and slow service while the kinks get worked out. Since it's been a few months since it opened I was looking for some opinions from gamblers that have stayed there recently other than the random ( spotty ) reviews on the usual sites like kayak and tripadvisor.

It seems that some of the stuff I was able to find regarding Cantor at the Cosmopolitan is a little dated....

I'm assuming by now they're fully up and running.  I did read one "blog' that said the gaming devices were reserved for those who were either VIP's or those that had accounts with Cantor.  I would assume that I could just show up with some cash, open up an account and have access to make wages on the $$ I used to set up my account, then I could cash out when I desired???

are you serious headed out there in a few days and staying there? There is no sportsbook what is a boy to do.....

something tells me there is no way it will be a month not in that town!!!!

I've been reading a lot of reviews on trip advisor and yelp re: the Cosmo and it seems that ever since the warmer weather has come around people that have terraces overlooking the bellagio fountains have been complaining about insane noise levels coming from the pool starting at 9AM and the noise doesn't stop until the nightclub shuts down at 5A.

Pretty small window of opportunity to grab some shut eye.  Maybe if I was 21 and I planned on partying until 5AM that wouldn't be an issue.  I'm also still hearing alot of gripes about customer service.

My GF has decided to come along this time - So I changed my reservation to The Mandarin Oriental. She can spa while I gamble.  She's also a football fan so we can easily spend SUN watching some pigskin ( if the lockout gets resolved ) I'm aware that the MOLAS is a non gaming facility, but that doesn't bother me at all seeing as I'm located very close to some great action.  I can hang and gamble at the Cosmo without having to deal with any of the BS I've been hearing regarding the rooms.

The cosmopolitan looks super nice.  Let us know what you think when you get back and would love to see what the sportsbook looks like.

Was there 2 weeks ago with 2 friends. Stayed at Planet Hollywood for 3 nights then Cosmo for 1 night. One of my friends booked the hotels so I just went along with his plans as he wanted to check out the new hotel on the last night which was cool with me.

Checked out of PH 11 A.M on a Sunday, walked the overpass to Cosmo hoping to get an early check in. Was told there are rooms available but it would cost $80 for an early check in. We weren't paying that so we checked in our bags.

We decided to kill a few hours by going downtown. We took a bus called "The Ace" for the 1st time , cost $7 for a 24 hour pass, better than paying for the $50 cab. We boarded the backdoor and no one even checked if we payed. Throughout the whole route people were hopping on the back for free. So for now on Im taking the bus whenever I go downtown. Sorry for rambling on that, just figured I'd throw that in.

Got back to Cosmo at 3 and still no room. Sat on some comfortable chairs/couches at the Vesper Bar located next to check in. Vesper was more of a waiting area than a bar as we werent the only ones waiting for a room there. Finally, got the room at 3:45.

The room was beautiful. Nice view from the balcony. 2 Flatscreens, one in front of the bed, the other in front of the couches. Nice little small kitchen. My only complaint: theres a big opening separating the living room and bathroom. When open the room looks even more spacious. But it closes with mini blinds which felt kind of gay since it was 3 guys in the room and the mini blinds had little openings you could see though into the bathroom. No big deal, but a little awkward. I guess, cool if your with a girl.

We didn't spend much time in the hotel so cant give much info. Got back late Sunday night/Monday morning , headed up to the 2nd floor for something to eat before ending the night. But to our surprise the Chinese/Mexican spot was closed due to the flood. The cleaning guy told us about the "secret pizza place" on the third floor. The place is basically down a hallway in a separate room. We ended up going to Earl's at PH but now Im regretting it. I should of tried the pizza.

After waking up, went to the "Wicked Spoon buffett" for lunch on Monday before the flight back home. The food was fantastic. Would have ate more but didnt want to over do it for the flight.

Overall, beautiful hotel, beautful room. Just a little turned off from the $80 early check in policy and waiting.

Yeah, we were joking about the same thing. Since we got the room late, they should give us $80......There were people checking in, so I guess they were paying the early check in fee.....I understand money talks and people with money get treated better but the whole policy is like you said, "lame".

Thanks for the pics.  That sportsbook looks super nice.  I will definetly have to check that sportsbook out.

I went to the Cosmo when I went to Vegas in March for the madness.  The STK steakhouse was great, they put us in a private room with two TV's so we could watch some games.  On another night we went to Marquis and it is the hottest club in town, we went to the hip hop room.  It was a good time.  We have our annual convention this year in Vegas in September, and it is actaully at the Cosmo, so I will know a lot more then.  I did not like how much of a zoo the main floor was with a band, and the crazy noise.

But to me, this place is not Vegas, it is a flashy hotel that would be nice in San Diego, or Phoenix, or something like that.  I am old school, and diid not care for the feel of this hotel.     Somehow the Wynn and Encore is updated, yet still gives the feel of how Vegas once was.........  Just my thoughts!!

The Cosmo was to be all condos......bankruptcy, Deutsche Bank takes it over, change in format.....It is an anomaly; but still high quality.....The Jay Z New Years party was the best in Vegas...and, believe me, it was "VEGAS!"....

The Sahara can give you the "feel of how Vegas once was"...unfortunately, it's all borded up now.

I loved The Dunes...but I love The Bellagio (same site) a great deal more.....

I l have stayed at the Bellagio, the Venetian, Pallazo, Encore, Wynn, and have liked all of them in their unique way!  Cosmo didn't do it for me, but I am sure it will be very successful.  We are having our convention at the Cosmo in Septemeber, so I will have a much better report then!! 

VG & FRC - I  appreciate your input.  One recent review I read seems to sum up the majority of reviews I have been reading: They seem to be more concerned with being hip & trendy rather than being friendly and providing people with good customer service.

The casino and the book at The Cosmopolitan are TWO SEPARATE AND DISTINCT COMPANIES!!!!

Cantor Gaming is the book and gives a percentage of the business to Deutsche Bank and has no relationship...in a customer service sense....with the casino.

Cantor's business plan calls for a major focus on Account Wagering"....they will take your bet; but make it and leave. They make less money if they give you free drinks or racing forms and really have no desire for you to sit there all day and watch the games.....there are bars for that in Vegas.

OK...that might seem harsh...yes?.....BUT, if you want to run a successful business and understand what models are necessary to accomplish that...then "old time Vegas...with all the freebies" does not coincide with a successful book...a casino, but not a book.....and Cantor knows this.

Remember guys, that the sportsbook accounts for less than 2% of the casino income and exists, for the most part, as a convenience to the guests. Giving away booze, etc cuts into the profits (which are ususally only made during football season...btw)

The public......that means all the squares reading this in this forum....need to understand the economics of the situation, enjoy that they have an opportunity to make a legal bet on a sports event and collect their winnings immediately, and STOP CRYING about the extracurricular matters....

I hope that hostility wasn't directed my way.  I have researched both Cantor gaming and the circumstances surrounding Deutsche banks involvement with the Cosmo.  I also understand the percentage of revenue that the casinos make from the SB's.

I don't think I asked anybody about "freebies".  I'm able to bet what I need to bet in order to get full RF&B if I feel the particular trip in question affords me the amount of time required to do so. ( a guys trip is much different than a trip with the lady ) In all of my travels to Vegas I've become accustomed to not receiving comps from the SB. A free cocktail is nice every now and then but when you take the amount of money people wager on games into consideration it's actually a comical concern. I'm aware that there's been a debate about cantor's drink ticket policy at both the Trop and the M.

Lee Amaitis from Cantor has been quoted as saying that they will be getting almost all of their customers from guests staying at the Cosmopolitan. There will be very little walk in traffic. If that's the case, and I'm VERY interested in your opinion here: Don't you think that Cantor would be interested in how the hotel side of the operation is being run?

I don't live in Vegas so I try to do my homework before hand so that my trips out there can be as enjoyable as possible.  I greatly enjoy the luxury of making a legal sports bet.  I also don't think there's a problem asking for people's opinions both positive and negative when a new property opens, especially when there are so many options available out there.

The casino and the book ARE two separate companies. Yes, but I know you know there's a third party involved too, the hotel.  A person can have completely different opinions in regards to each of them.  Without coming right out and saying it, it has appeared to me that the hotel side of the operation has received it's fair share of complaints.  Taking that into consideration I'm interested in peoples observations on the SB's & casino's sides of the operation.
