As most know by now, Disney closed up their ESPN Zones across the country...this place has been empty for many months now.
NY-NY has over 100 new HD tv's in place, a solid menu, and has kept the layout perfect for watching all the sports. Two floors, with some games on the 2nd floor (as in the past) for addt'l fun.
As far as sportsbars go, right on the Strip...this should be a big winner.

Vegas...Great place. I bartended there for 3 years when it was ESPN zone. In my opinion it was the best place to catch a game if you are in Vegas. Sure the beers were $7 each but like you said, you are paying for the great atmosphere and 100's of hdtv's. Interested to see how it will be run now. Disney ran a pretty tight ship while I was there. I opened it up in 2001 and it was a great place to work untill I found out about the best kept secret in America (local gaming bar). I cant wait to try the new place out as I know they kept a lot of the managers I know and some bartenders. Nothing like free drinks and food while watching all the games.

Sound.... Disney decided to go out of the "food business"...there are still 2 left in Cali; but are owned independently, not by Disney.
Mickey.....Better TV's, great memoribilia, video gaming at the bar, main tv's at bar and in the house have sound turned on for the biggest game playing....Ark is running the food part of the place...added some interesting choices...

Mickey, PM me. I have worked for Nevada Beverage since 1997. I have delivered to every bar in town. Just wondering if I know you.

FYI: They open, during the week, at 11am and open on the weekends at 9am.
Don't know why they don't open at 8:30 on Saturdays to let people settle in for the 9am games.....the line last Saturday was out the door and it was 9:20 already....So, if you have an interest in the early college games, get there early enough to be first on line.
Guess you don't have to be too bright to run a business in Vegas, eh?

This place must be to supplement the NYNY's very weak book. ESPN Zone kinda did that, but it's whole different vibe than a book environment IMO.
Not sure about the legality behind it, but if they were smart, someone would make it into a "Legasse's Stadium" type of place with wagering available inside. I assume you have to step outside the front door to place wagers at the actual book (or lack there of).

Yeah chad...that was my thinking. Need to get a book right inside the place. NYNY book may be one of the worst in vegas.
t6rider: I have worked at about 10PT's in town, Espn zone, and now at the Outside Inn . Never really deal with anyone from Nev Bev but I might just know you from face.

Ever go to the Silverton or Fremont to make a bet?.....
To me, a book is where you make a bet (and, hopefully, cash your ticket)....I am more concerned about the lines (juice) than the lines (people)....So, "worst"...IMHO...doesn't really carry much with me....AND, I sure as hell have no real desire to sit with a bunch of squares/tourists who need to get drunk on Bud Lites while watching their money go down the crapper. The only time that I spend time/sit in a R&S is when I'm playing the ponies.
PS...Word has it that they are gonna put in a "Leroy's-type of self-bet kiosks in the bar/restaurant....was in there yesterday and saw that they already have parlay cards and sheets available as you walk in.....Also heard discussions about putting in a Poker Room upstairs.

Vegas...I go to the Silverton once in a while to place a bet but my book of choice would be the M. Also like the Southpoint. Im right in the middle of town at 215-Jones so Red Rock/Silverton/SouthPoint are all about the same ride for me. Putting a Leroys kiosk in there is a great idea. Kinda like a few BWW have done out here. I have a 5Dimes account that I use just as much but I still like getting off work at 7am on sunday morning grabbing a sheet and an ice cold one and planting myself infront of the big screen at the SouthPoint for an hour and capping a few games. You are right about watching games in a sportsbook. I hate it. Sooo many other great options out here for those in the know.

Love what Gaughan has done with South Point...he learned the biz from his dad....
Sportsbooks, to me, should not be primary choices for watching games....If, however, you like to bet halftimes (and don't like online), then I could understand being closer to the sportsbook area, having a drink (sharps do not do much of that), and following the lines as they come in.
But, as I have seen and been told for several years now, halftime wagers (football and basketball) have been declining....books have also been much more careful with limits and parlays on these bets. Over 98% of all bets are fullgame bets and, as such, caring about where I make the bet should only be a consideration of the line and NOT how nice the seats are or...my biggest gripe....if the booze is free.
PS...Dropped into The Sportinghouse at NY-NY for a few minutes today...jammed packed, all the games on hdtv's... They do charge a minimum of $15 per person per hour at the restaurant tables (not in the 2 bar areas) during the games....nachos and a beer take care of that.

I realize that the majority of people on this website do not live here and that we, that work in the industry, appreciate when we have tourists/bettors that come to town. BUT, as I have said many times in this forum....The sportsbook, at best, accounts for 2% of the revenue of any casino (usually less) and, if they could, the casinos would replace the sportsbooks with slot machines.
What grew businesses like Leroy's in this state was that, more and more, casinos had no desire to run a sportsbook...so they leased out the area of the casino to Leroy's, picked up a piece of the pie..and were satisfied. Now, Cantor Gaming is taking that route and Leroy's is going mobile with their new app. for the smartphones.
Years and years ago, there were sportsbooks on the Strip...not in the hotels. Then the hotels decided that their guests would like to have the convenience of betting in the hotel instead of having to walk on the Strip (plus it could make the hotels more money).
However, as the business has become more technical and the 3 table games (baccarat, craps, blackjack) + slots (and the advancement of their entertainment value) has increased...the sportsbooks have become much less important...and more of an inconvenience to the hotel than a convenience to the guests.
Most of the people on this website are too young to remember the sportsbooks on the Strip...."Old Vegas"...which is what they would have enjoyed. They need to just enjoy the opportunity to bet legally on sports, and not have to worry about getting their money on a winning bet. All you have to do is read the gaming forum here everyday, see all the negativity about the offshores, and realize that Nevada/Vegas offers peace of mind/legality/enjoyment to the recreational bettor far more than any other way...including your "local guy"....along with the best "bang for your buck" of any vacation town in this country.

Thx MWC...
My two exceptions to the statement are:
1. Mandalay Bay at March Madness
2. Las Vegas Hilton for Superbowl

Haven't been to Silverton or Fremont for the books.
I live in socal so I come to Vegas to party. Yea, I'm a tourist when I'm there so I enjoy hanging in the books a bit to catch some games I bet on. My wagers aren't large enough to where reduced juice really resignates with me.
I say the NYNY book sucks cuz of what it is. Not for its lines or juice. You'll never catch me there when I'm in town!

New York - New York is one of my favorite small hotel/casinos....the restaurants are very good, I can get my own table at high limit without an issue, and the book...because it never has long lines...allows me last minute betting (especially the halftime bets) without a problem.
Sometimes...."Less is Better"....and the NY-NY book, small as it is (I believe 8 or 9 windows) is perfect for a bettor like myself. The book "fits" the personality of the hotel...just as the book at Bellagio or Mandalay fits that hotel.

I own pieces of several restaurants...prefer not to say which ones....kinda enjoy just "talking Vegas", giving some advice/encouragement to those here and those that come here without publicity.....

First, let me say I always enjoy you thoughts on Las Vegas. You are the best source of info for the person that comes to LV 2 or 3 times a year and wants info on anything(Sportsbooks, restaurants, etc.)
You mentioned the Las Vegas Hilton for Superbowl. With the new rules about Superbowl partys, can you give me some details on the events at the Hilton for Superbowl Sunday? Big ballrooms, first come first in, food, etc.
I understand that the South Point has two ballrooms with large screens, food, etc.

Wasn't bashing NYNY, just saying their book is a bit of a joke for the average guy visiting, especially cuz NYNY is relatively new. Not like it's been around forever like Tropicana or something so they don't have that excuse! Sounds like it's good for a guy like you though so that's cool.
Love the book at Mandalay- Incredible!

VG- You think the new spot at NYNY is going to be somewhat of an extension of their book? In other words, do you think the majority of the clientel will be folks that are placing wagers outside the front door and heading in or will it be more a just an average sportsbar/reataurant environment?
It would be cool to be at a spot where they have good food and drink service, but at the same time provide the atmosphere of a book. Usually the service in the actual book sucks... usually.

Other than the potential betting kiosk that they are supposed to put into the new SportingHouse....I think that what you have is a great place to eat/drink with lots of hdtv's...some at your own table....I honestly believe that I prefer separating where I bet with where I eat/drink/watch the games.....My point about NY-NY is that the new restaurant is close enough, and the book is small enough, to allow me last-minute halftime wagers without any trouble at all.....
The old ESPN Zone drew 95%+ of its customers from the Strip who could care less about betting.....they just wanted to watch the games and eat bar food. This new one has the possibility of being better because it is being run by NY-NY (even has gaming at the bar).
I do think that the sportsbook at NY-NY, adjacent to a great deli and Mexican restaurant (along with the new SportingHouse) is pretty good...compared with Excalibur, Luxor, Monte Carlo (also owned by MGM).
TahoeJoe.....My point about LV Hilton & Superbowl is that Jay Kornegay who runs the book is the absolute best at creating proposition bets on the big game....his sheets create a "book" of prop bets. Also....he does set aside a group of prop bets on the game that you can parlay.....impossible to find anyone else in Vegas that allows that to happen.
So, combining the betting fun with the atmosphere...I would choose LV HIlton for SuperBowl (also good for most Sundays).
The problem with SuperBowl parties stems from the control of the NFL and their lawyers. If you do not have licensing rights from the NFL, you cannot do anything of a "business nature" concerning the game that you can profit from. KInd of like "pay-per-view on steroids"!!! You can't even use the words "Super Bowl"...you have to say "big game" or "championship game"....

The info I'm looking for is a place for 10 guys to watch the Superbowl. Maybe with a little food and of cource near a sports book. I thought maybe you know of an area at the Hilton?
Is there anywhere in LV I can reserve 10 seats without standing in line at 11am to be the 1st into an event and get good seats? Obviously the NFL has messed up that possibility. We are not high enough players to get invited to a party.

VG:
The info I'm looking for is a place for 10 guys to watch the Superbowl. Maybe with a little food and of cource near a sports book. I thought maybe you know of an area at the Hilton?
Is there anywhere in LV I can reserve 10 seats without standing in line at 11am to be the 1st into an event and get good seats? Obviously the NFL has messed up that possibility. We are not high enough players to get invited to a party.
