I can't believe that I've never heard of this idea from anyone. I am headed to Vegas later this year have been trying to figure out how to make sure my money lasts....
Background - You know the drill. You head to Vegas with X amount of money (call it $3K) and you want to make sure it lasts the trip. You get drunk the first night and tear through your cash. Then you're miserable and either bum around or do a CC advance, etc. BUT NOT MORE!! I have the solution.
I will use my trip as an example and say I am going to take $3K. I get there on a Friday. The first thing I'm going to do is head to the sports book and find a game (any sport) that will settle on Sat around noon. I will then bet $1K on one side of the game (and yea, you guessed it), $1K on the other side. For $50, I can protect $2K for the night and collect my money that following day after I sleep off Friday night.
You think that's expensive?? Consider how many times you have doubled/tripled a bet (when drunk), dropped $25 on the roulette table, etc., etc., etc.... Now how expensive does $50 sound? That's just one stupid mistake that YOU WILL MAKE that night.
I would be very interested to hear if someone knows of any low juice books or no juice specials that I could use for this GENIUS strategy.
Would also like to hear if someone else has a better idea of suggestions.

I think you miss the point. Have you never talked to someone who was like. "Man...I wish I had taken that money out of the safe and played it!" If I knew that wouldn't happen then you're right, that would be ideal. This is just a way to protect the sober self from the drunk wild man self.

I am assuming that you can find a 5% juice line. If you can't, then it would be $100.

There may be limited specials or select games (though I've never seen them), sure, but no book will go down to 5 cents because their profit margins are so small any way (when compared to the money the rest of the casino brings in)

I understand it is difficult for you to "think outside of the box" or comprehend that sometimes you have to retreat before you move forward. I know that you think...spend $50 or don't spend $50. I'm not sure where you're coming from. I see you sidestepped the whole conversation about the fact that people do regret their actions the next day and just went straight to the foolish assumption that I've never been to Vegas. I'm definitely no Vegas regular and have only been there a handful of times. I do go to Mohegan about 2-3 times a year but definitely an extremely different vibe. I don't have visions of making it rain or whatever. Vegas has pretty much whatever you're looking for so it's not like finding a party is hard but it's not like I think women are going to be throwing themselves at me. You are pretty far off topic and seem to want to avoid my main point. This can help people.
The last time I went to Vegas, I was with my wife and we have a great system. I put my wallet and cash in the safe and we only take out what we want to play (I let her lock it up). She normally heads up before I do and when she leaves, she takes most of the chips/cash and I keep enough to play craps for a while and/or poker.
I normally would play for a few more hours and then hit the bed. The last trip, I did moderately well in my late night sessions but I truly believe it was b/c I knew I only had a finite amount of cash and so I didn't get as crazy with my betting. Instead of taking numbers on the hop, jacking up hardways or taking high horn bets, I pretty much stuck to placing a couple of numbers and playing the line.
My next trip, however, is in September and is for a bachelor party. I know we're going to be partying like crazy and I know (from past experience when I used to gamble before I was married) that I can get wild and chase long shots with high house edges. I believe that if I know that I only have X amount ($1K in my example) then I will be more responsible with my money and not tear through it.
My point is that you can't seem to grasp this and you refuse to acknowledge that nearly everyone knows someone or knows someone who knows someone who has gotten crazy. You cling to this idea that people should just do XYZ and then you won't need that. My point is that if it was that easy, then people wouldn't be fat. Why don't fat people just not eat. Problem solved!

If people only did thing they should do then people wouldn't gamble, they wouldn't drink, they wouldn't smoke, they would exercise every day, etc., etc., etc. But that's not the way the world works. I'm creating a solution for the real world and you're making an argument for a world that doesn't exist.
If you sit and sip ginger ale or only have a couple of beers at the sports book, poker table, craps, whatever then you obviously don't need this solution. But to say that others don't is a bit naive.

I see you are from Nevada, how close to Vegas to you reside ?
I live in Henderson. I can get to the Strip in less then half hour. Just moved out from your state, Indiana, last Oct. It's a really great area. Maybe that is why I differ so much from our friend that wants to spend $50/$100 to protect his money. I love to go to the strip and have a good time on the weekends, even spend some early weekday afternoons in the sportsbook when I can get away from work.
I would say for the most part the Vegas strip is great. Don't get me wrong I like to have a good time, but there is that 10-15% of whom I would call jag bags that can't handle Vegas. You know the guys I'm talking about. But hey, everyone has their own vision of Vegas and that is what makes it great. Just a reminder to the jag bags, the people you see laughing are laughing at you, not with you.
Enjoy the gambling, the women, the food and drink. If you have never been to Vegas get it off your bucket list now.
