While staying at Planet Hollywood a few weeks ago, I asked how the comps worked in the sportsbook. The lady tells me $1000 wager will usually get you $1 food comp. Wow, a whole dollar?! I placed wagers everyday totalling about 200-300 a day for 4 days. Was never offered a drink ticket, or any sort of "comp". Last day we place some future bets, and my buddy ,who maybe placed a quarter of what I did during the trip, gets a drink ticket.
I could care less about a free drink, but the service was just grumpy every time I visited the window.

We didn't try it...we politely checked the front desk to see if we could get into our room, and we told her our story about pulling an all nighter and she felt bad and put a rush on the room, and upgraded us to a strip view at no charge. It wasn't a fountain view of the Bellagio, but was able to watch the construction of the new City Center pretty well... Not going to complain, we were just glad to get a room around 12:30 instead of 3.

the worst comps I ran into was last summer at the Mandalay Book with a buddy...i was having a great week financially...I go up to the window..place two $500 bets...one a straight play, and a two teamer...i ask for a drink ticket...guy says no....10 min later..my buddy goes up to put $4 on a horse to win from our hometown track of a race thats just about to start....gets a drink ticket without even asking lol

Only reason I asked about comps at the book was they had a manager ask a guy for his card so he could get comped...he was betting the horses. Who bets $1000+ on a dog or horse race that they're watching in a sports book? Unless the amount is different for the races?

Walter- Placed a bet at Canterbury huh?

Traditionally Vegas has always comped the horse bettors better than sports bettors.
At nearly every book you can bet $2 on the favorite to show and get your drinks comped. Place a couple hundred on a game and practically have to beg for a drink ticket at most. Doesn't make much sense to me but whatever.
My favorite is still Bellagio's book. Comfortable seating. Decent screens with the top games on. Variety of bets. Free drink service without requiring tickets. And the service is usually very good during peak times. I'm sure some prefer the Hilton but just not as convenient being at the far end of the strip.

I remember when I would go out to Vegas in the 90's and would sit in the Monte Carlo sportsbook, not the greatest book, but they would bring me drinks all day. They never even checked my ticket. Talking about having some fun. I miss those times.
I went to Mandalay Bay a few years ago and I had to beg for a drink ticket. I like that sportsbook. Really nice, but are they stingy on giving out free drinks.

Hilton has comps. Something that sounds crazy like you get a dollar for every 2 grand wagered. Cant remember if they do drink tickets or give them out.
So I guess its not awful if your betting a couple hundred on every game and take lots of games per day you should be able to eat at the buffet 2 or 3 times a week for free.

People who win and get offended by surly service are losers Vegas wasnt built on winners.
AND BY WIN I DONT MEAN YOU ACTUALLY HAVE TO WIN, I MEAN SOMEONE WHO DOESNT LOSE THIER FUCKING ASS!!!
My old man got into an arguement with the people in the Sierra in Reno for not swiping his fucking card after hed been taking a grand a night out of thier bullshit 4-8 game. Idiot. Hes fucking moaning to be about the smarmy little fucker running the game and is like, he didnt swipe my comp card I had to make an issue out of it and even then he didnt want to do it. Complete moron, not happy with taking money from blatant providers drinking and having a good time he expects them to kiss his ass too!
Only people who lose thier ass should feel entitled to shit, everyone else should suck it up and pay, dont be a parasitic vermin these are buisnesses, support thier buisness in some way. If you dont do it by losing your ass then tip well and spend your own cash in the restaraunts or whatever lowly comps or coupons you have.

The Nugget is pretty bad as well with the drink tickets
Played bj at the Nugget and always had a fresh drink in front of me. Got up and walked around for about 10 min, came back and there was a new drink there waiting for me. I enjoyed playing there but the crowd is older.

Just because it's a business doesn't mean we all need to donate to get a few drinks or a meal here and there. It should be more of a "Thanks for coming to this casino to risk YOUR money, here's a drink". Those are the well managed casinos who you don't here people complaining about their service.

The Sportsbook and the Racebook....they are totally separate
The sportsbook uses the money of the hotel/casino and books your bet....The Racebook acts as the "agent" for the racetrack and uses the money of the racetrack (taking a percentage for booking the bet at the hotel/casino)
The sportsbook makes or loses money based upon the success or lack of it of their bettors. The racebook ALWAYS makes money because they are taking 15 cents on every dollar of your bet and forwarding the rest to the racetrack to go into the mutuel pool at the track.
The sportsbooks will rarely comp because of their low profit margins; the racebooks will always comp (usually 3.5% of your bet)
Those that can bet 5 to10 dimes or more per bet on sports can get preferential treatment from the management..but that still gets watched over by senior management.
You can ususally get better comps at the table games;;;because there the casino knows it's profit margin and tracks your betting. Sportsbooks do not tend to track betting (unless it is over $5000 a bet)....
Most sportsbooks on the Strip account for only 1% of the income for that casino.....comps are watched very closely. You can get more freebies playing penny slots than you can in a sportsbook.

The books in vegas make money but, don't make THE $$$. table games & folks who cram $100's into the machines make the money. They got cards & shit for player tracking. So, the suits can see what they bet & how often, the book is like the bastard division, often makin the house money but not enough cuz the cappers get thier cut. Comps are only given out to in sight , in mind money, don't come to vegas tryin to get comped for sports betting unless you drop 1,00s on games in a short period of time, that will be noticed.

just spent the weekend at the Rio sportsbook for March Madness and as long as youre watching the games in the sportsbook u dont need any drink tickets . the cocktail waitresses come around very often just make sure u tip at least a buck for ur drink and she'll be coming before u finish ur 1st beer. apparently this is the norm at Rio as my buddies have been going there for years now because of the drink situation. just a little info for future visits to LV
