Several years ago Florida put up a new game called Mega Money 5. That is, select only 4 numbers and a Power Ball.
At that time, one had to select 4 numbers, 1 thru 36 numbers and select the powerball 1 thru 22. ( the next year they changed the rules and increased the numbers 1 thru 44, and PB still 1 thru 22. .)
Anyway. My bother in law and his wife came down for a visit and asked me to go with them out on the Casino ship. I recommended instead of going on the boat, let's buy 400 tickets on the mega money ( 200 dollars each ). I told them that power ball number 20 was the only PB number that has not come up since the game started about a year before. And I said, today is the 20th of the month.
I suggested that we buy 400 tickets with PB number 20 and quick pick the other numbers, we would have a hell of a chance if number 20 PB came up. Okay they said, and off we went on the boat.
Well, I lost 300 bucks that day but his wife won 600.00 dollars.
On the way home, I said okay lets stop and get the 400 dollars of mega tickets. I couldn't believe it when his wife said, look, I will only put up 100 dollars but not all on number 20.
She said, I will buy a all quick pick ( random ) numbers with my hundred dollars and you buy all power ball number 20 with your hundred dollars, and we will split the jackpot, which was now up to 1 million dollars.
I don't know why I agreed to it, but foolishly I did.
We turned on the TV at exactly 11pm. as they were calling out the winner numbers.
He said, ladies and gentlemen, the winning power ball number is 20 !!!
Guess what, she came running over and grabbed me jumping up and down saying, we did it, we did it. Now I was pissed. (I didn't know if we won with the other numbers but I knew we had a hell of a chance.) with 100 tickets BUT should have been 400 tickets.
She frantically began going through her tickets while I patiently watched. She sheepishly looked up and said " I only have 2 tickets with PB 20 in this pile, No winners. She said, hurry hurry look at your stack! I was really getting ticked off at that point. At her and myself. Relax, relax, I said.
I put her through agony by slowly looking a one ticket at a time.
To make a longer story short. We had 3 of the other 4 number with the PB 20 that paid 700.00 hundred dollars. One more number and we win the Million ! And, 48 winning tickets that paid from 2 dollars to 80.00.
When I went to turn them at the lottery office, the clerk said to me , wait I have to get my Supervisor. She came out and said, Are you back again ? You were just here 3 months ago! And, just how did you get 49 winning tickets ? Luck, I said.
To this very day, I believe I was the reason they changed the game from 36 up to 44 numbers.
